Missed Miscarriage

Hi ladies,

I hope you are all doing ok. I posted in the pregnancy thread a couple weeks ago as I was so unwell with hypermesis gravidarium (severe morning sickness) but now unfortuantly it seems as though I'm having a missed miscarriage. I was told last Friday that things are not looking good for a few reasons but I need to wait until this Friday to make a plan like arranging a D&C.

I'm still so sick and I'm on lots of medication/IV's for hydration too but I'm wondering what to tell work. I only started a new job recently and I'm wondering how long do people usually take off for a D&C/miscarriage? I'm already struggling in work telling people I have 'stomach problems' to hide the sickness now

So sorry you're going through this - and suffering with HG must make it feel particularly unfair. I recently had a miscarriage at 12 weeks (baby died at 11) and my morning sickness carried on until after the D&C - in fact I still get brief waves now, more than 2 weeks later! But for some people the D&C is a magic cure - hope it is for you.

With regards work, presumably you've told your manager what is going on? If not you'll have to do that, and you can perhaps arrange what to do about time off. Some people can go back to work very quickly (e.g. my sister had her D&C on a Fri, back to work with no problems on Mon), some will need much longer - I don't work but I was affected by the anaesthetic so I would have probably needed a week off. Do you think you can be flexible about it and see how it goes after the op?

And for everyone else at work, maybe you can just tell them you've had a minor op - I wouldn't have thought many people would be nosy enough to ask for details! Good luck on Friday.

@chocolateaddict231 so sorry to hear you are going through this. My GP has said he signs women off for 2 weeks minimum but of course it is all about how you feel, you may need longer, you may need less.

The time off you need after a miscarriage is classed as pregnancy related sickness so I believe you are entitled to as you need
