TTC after mmc and d&c - mixed advice!

Hi lovely ladies,
I had a mmc at 10 weeks (baby stopped growing at 9) last week. I had a d&c yesterday. Me and my partner are very keen to start trying again as soon as we can, but I'm getting fairly mixed messages as to when is best. I've read quite a few stories of people conceiving within two weeks of their mc, but other places are suggesting that waiting until a proper period arrives. My doctor just told me to start trying once we are mentally ready, but didn't really put a time length on it. I suppose I'm just looking for stories of when you started trying, and if you did conceive straight away, how did it go for you?
Thank you so much xx

So sorry for your loss! I had a miscarriage in Feb, had MVA surgery on 28th. I was told by the hospital to wait for a period, but made it quite clear it was for dating purposes only! I had read lots about it, and some had said they were told by drs that the womb lining needs time to recover etc in order to help ensure it holds a possible future pregnancy and a period would establish that. However, that’s never been told to me as medical advice, it’s just things I’ve read from others. I don’t really get the dating purpose, as an LMP date is only really accurate if you have a perfect 28 day cycle - if you ovulate late into the month or have long cycles etc then it’s a bit irrelevant as you’ll be further behind if using LMP - that’s my understanding anyway! I just think that if you know roughly when you conceived, adding two weeks will be about right there or there abouts, regardless of last period. We had said we would wait for a period, and then decided that we would see how things go and maybe just start again anyway. I have just had my first period, 5 weeks after the procedure, we hadn’t tried before that and will now just see how things go. I hope you’re ok xx

Same as @CupidStunt24 here, I read so much about all this. It really does only seem to be for dating reasons, no medical evidence supporting not to.

I began tracking with opk's and got a peak within 2 weeks of my procedure, however then af never came after the next 2 weeks so it messed me up a bit stressing about my body. Finally my period came today 9 weeks later!

My advice would be if you're ready to ttc again, get the negative pregnancy test then just dtd without tracking the first time but take pregnancy tests every week to check for a bfn. I think that first period can take so long, going straight back into tracking can be a lot to manage.

Thanks so much for both your replies, and so sorry for your losses! Yup, I think we will wait for a negative test and then just get back to normal so to speak without tracking too closely/being too ‘clinical’ about it! Fingers crossed for all of us soon xxx
