Retained tissue after miscarriage

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help... I had medical management for a missed miscarriage 7 weeks ago. After several scans I was told I had some retained tissue, and was advised to wait and see if my period comes in the hope that this tissue will come out with that. I've been waiting and waiting and still no sign of my period, just spotting a browny discharge for the last couple of weeks. They've finally booked me in for a d&c this Wednesday and I really want to try and avoid it if possible. I know it's very rare that it can go wrong but I'm so worried about the risks.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with retained tissue after a miscarriage and their period did eventually come? I just don't know if I should give it some more time and wait and see. I should also mention that I went for about 6 months of not having a period when I came off the pill so I'm worried this will be similar. I'm also worried that having the surgery will reset my cycle and I've already waited 7 weeks since my miscarriage. Just looking for some advice of anyone who's had a similar experience!

I had retained tissue after my 15 week miscarriage. I was put on a oxytocin infusion at the hospital for 12 hours, some tissue came out, and I was sent home with 1 week worth oxytocin tablets to take at home and told to come back after a week if the tissues didn't pass.
It was horrible and painful. In addition to the mental pain and grief of losing a baby, there was this horrible cramping. Folded in half in bed gasping for air type of pain. I miscarried on a Saturday and whatever was left came out the following Wednesday. I had begged for a D&C. Yes there is a risk of adhesion which could comprise future pregnancies, but the pain was out of this world, worse than giving birth.

After 7 weeks, I have no clue if taking Pitocin is advisable . If you have amenorrhea, I am not sure telling you to wait for your period makes much sense. Have you seen an OB/Gyn?

I am sorry this happened to you.

Hi, sorry you find yourself in this awful situation. I could have written this myself about 6 weeks ago. I had a long winded miscarriage that started in January and my retained products just wouldn't go. I ended up having a D&C, after 2 lots of medical management in the weeks before. I found the procedure so quick and nowhere near as bad as I was expecting, then my period finally came a week after the d&c. I just wanted to say don't worry about your cycle "resetting" because that isn't neccessarily the case. I personally found knowing it was all gone the biggest relief. Wishing you a speedy resolution!
