Recurrent miscarriages

George321s · 20/03/2022 00:23

Hi

Ive had 3 recurrent miscarriages (all around the 6 week mark) and I’ve been referred to the RMC and had my blood tests done now just waiting for the results

I can get pregnant but holding onto the pregnancy is the problem

Is there anything you were recommended to try/take to help hold onto the pregnancy?

Thank you in advance

Hi @George321s, my consultant is going to prescribe steroids for my next attempt - ivf, 4 in a row, genetic testing on the last 2 losses showed one with a trisomy and one completely perfect - I’ve never got past about 8 weeks either, even with progesterone and aspirin.
I don’t know how old you are but I’ve seen posters at my hospital for a trial with doxycycline, relating to endometritis. I’m too old for it but could be worth investigating?

George321s · 20/03/2022 10:47

Thank you for getting back to me @Sunbird24

So sorry for your losses, it’s just a horrible time :(

I’m having genetic testing done on the last loss,
I haven’t been given any medication to try yet as this is my first appointment at the RMC - il have a look out for doxycycline and give it a mention to the consultant and see what they say

Hopefully you’ll have blood tests back soon too, and they might show something that can be addressed. It’s the not knowing isn’t it? And the fact it seems to happen so easily for so many other women 😢

George321s · 20/03/2022 11:34

@Sunbird24
My appointment is this week coming, I hope so too!
It’s the feeling of is this ever going to happen for me?
I know and as much as your happy for other women you can’t help but feel a little jealous at the same time Sad

I had my third loss in January and just on ovulation day today. I went for private scans after the last loss because the NHS said is be waiting at least 6 months to be seen. Had all my results back apart from karyotyping and they're all fine. The consultant did say he thinks I have mild pcos though so I've started a strict diet with low carbs.

I have also read It Starts With An Egg and am currently taking all vitamins recommended for RM. Not sure they will make a difference but it's worth a shot I guess.

The PCOS diagnoses makes sense as I've always struggled with a bit of facial hair and find it difficult to lose weight so I think I'm focusing on my diet and exercise and hoping it will help!

George321s · 03/04/2022 09:55

Hi @trinity198

Apologies I’ve only just seen this!

I’m so sorry for your losses.. it’s such a heartbreaking thing to go through
How did you find going private?
Please can I ask what vitamins you are taking?

I had to go in for surgery this week as the consultant found tissue when had my app with RMC - and now my app has been pushed back another 2 months

@George321s

Hey...

I read your post and honeslty could have written it myself.

I've just had my 3mc in a row in the last 12months and I feel numb.

Like you... I dont know what else I can do?

I took baby asprin and progestone this pregnancy and still mc at 6 weeks.

I'm on the nhs referral list now for an appt with the clinic... can I ask how long you have been waiting?

I feel the same.... will it ever happen
💔 xxx

George321s · 04/04/2022 11:32

Hi @letshope

I’m so sorry for your losses :(

i feel like it’s really hard knowing what to say even though you’ve gone through the same thing yourself..
Did you get recommended the progesterone and baby aspirin to take or did you just take it off your own back?

I was on the waiting list for 2 months because I was told that the pregnancy had completely cleared then when I went for my appointment with the consultant a couple of weeks ago they found pregnancy tissue so had to go in for surgery before my appointment could go any further

So now I’m waiting another 2 months for my next appointment! Have you had a referral yet?

Xx

@George321s I found going private much less stressful. I had all my tests and answers within a month. Still not heard about my nhs referral.

I'm currently taking the vitamins suggested in the book I mentioned. These are: Myo-inositol, Ubiquinol, alpha lipoic acid, NAC, omega 3, methyl folate and vitamins E, C, D, B6 and B12.

I've also previously been tested for NK cells which were inconclusive as one was high and one was low. But I've been prescribed sitagliptin by professor Brosens at Coventry to try help regrow stem cells in the womb. He has also proscribed progesterone.

I hope the surgery went well. But really annoying that it has pushed you back!

letshope · 05/04/2022 10:42

@George321s @trinity198

Hello both,
@George321s I took the asprin off my own back from researching myself. And the progesteone I had prescribed to me.

I live in south wales and been informed that our backlog for referrals are 6months plus. So I'm in a dilemma now of what to do?!!?

@trinity198 hey! I've got the book your referring to and I'm going to try as well the vitamins as I've heard good things.x

Wedonttalk · 05/04/2022 10:51

Google Siobhan Quenby and NK cells. Not available on the NHS but made the difference for my Friend.

trinity198 · 05/04/2022 11:29

@letshope the book is really good. It's expensive for all of the vitamins but hopefully they will help. Been taking them since my last miscarriage at the end on Jan/early feb.

The NHS told me 6 months at least for the first appointment then it could be another 3 months before actually doing the tests. It's such a long wait. I paid about £1400 for the tests private which isn't ideal but we managed to scrape some money together to get them out of the way. I think they also offer monthly direct debit payments at some places if the costs are too much.

I saw Professor Brosens who works with Professor Quenby when I had my NK cells test. You can refer yourself to that which costs £540 for the tests. Although mine were inconclusive, they have been great at looking at alternative steps and it is them who have started me on Sitagliptin to see if that helps. Would recommend them highly

George321s · 06/04/2022 11:30

Thank you everyone for your responses

@trinity198 I’m going to have a look into the book you’ve recommended, surgery went okay I think.. won’t know for sure until my next appointment I believe, was a bit stressful as I didn’t really know what to expect!

@letshope I think I’m going to go private to help speed up the process as little bit as I feel like I’m kind of getting nowhere and it looks like the cells I handed in when I had my miscarriage has been lost by the hospital which I’m really annoyed about

George321 hope you're well too.

RosieLeeD · 19/06/2022 06:03

Hi - I also had 3 miscarriages (one via IVF after genetic testing of embryo) all lost early on.

NHS testing and even some with private clinic showed no cause.

I went to see Dr Shehata at the CRP clinic and he ran extensive testing (17 vials of blood)! He determine one of my immune cells - NK killer cells were over active and he put me on steroids (immunosuppressants) which I did in conjunction with IVF - but you can follow his protocol with getting pregnant naturally too.

His protocol worked first time for us and we have just welcomed our baby boy.

So my message is depending on the cause, the NHS testing and even some offered by private clinics may not be sufficient.

Good luck!

Hopeful543210 · 23/06/2022 11:50

Hi @RosieLeeD

thank you so much for your response, I’m going to have a look at Dr Shehata if this pregnancy doesn’t go in the right direction

ive found out I’m pregnant again currently 6weeks 4 days.. my fingers are crossed all will be okay!

RosieLeeD · 23/06/2022 13:54

You're welcome @Hopeful543210. I truly hope this pregnancy is different and that it works out for you.

However, if it isn't to be and you have any questions about Dr Shehata don't hesitate to get in touch.

All the best xx

Blueskies4 · 23/01/2023 08:30

@George321s @trinity198 hi ladies, hope you don’t mind me dropping a message and checking where you are with your journeys now? I’ve fingers crossed both pregnant and going well xx

I’ve just received my first appointment for RMC in February x

chasingtherainbow1 · 23/01/2023 18:26

@Blueskies4 hi it's trinity198 here but I changed my username. Things are going well, I am currently 30 weeks pregnant which is by far the furthest I've ever got! Still darent dream about reaching the end but am hopeful it will go well. I think it might have been a mixture of things which have helped - progesterone from 3dpo and the vitamins from the book I mentioned above. I think the vits helped egg quality. But then part of me thinks a change in diet could have helped too. I think it's worth just throwing everything at it.

It's good that you have your appointment through and Feb isn't long to wait now! I would definitely consider looking into vits etc if your results don't find anything.

Hope it goes well for you and best wishes to all others on this thread!

Blueskies4 · 23/01/2023 23:10

@chasingtherainbow1 ah this is such lovely news =) congratulations! Hope your 3rd trimester is treating you well x

Ive started reading the book this week so will definitely be implementing some suggestions from it.. and interesting to see what comes of my appointment! Thanks for replying :)

George321s · 05/05/2023 16:00

hi @Blueskies4

sorry for not replying sooner, I was trying not to think about being pregnant too much as I was so anxious about reaching the end!
I had my DD

I hope your appointment at the RMC went okay and you had some answers! X
