2 miscarriages led to placenta failure

Hey

I've had 2 miscarriages around 15 weeks due to placenta failure. My first child is a boy, second pregnancy was a loss, third pregnancy was a baby girl and 4th pregnancy led to a loss.

Does anyone know what supplements to take to strengthen the placenta?

Highly appreciate it x

I think the theory behind progesterone is that it helps the placenta develop. Nhs only prescribes after a bleed in women with history of miscarriage, however I went to a private recurrent miscarriage specialist and she prescribed it from day 16 of the cycle until either a period or week 14 of pregnancy.

Good luck xxx

@Hoping4second thank you so much for replying. I've been thinking to get some test done from private healthcare for recurrent miscarriages. Would you recommend? x

If you can afford it - yes yes yes. It feels wonderful to finally do something about it rather than just take it.

However we know so little about miscarriage that you do need to be aware that all the tests in the world won't guarantee a live baby.

I strongly recommend "what every woman should know about miscarriage" by professor Reagan, it helped inform my choices about which tests to pay for (because private places do happily sell you expensive stuff that's borderline useless).

Best of luck xx

@Hoping4second please could I ask who you saw privately? Looking now!

Hoping4second · 13/11/2022 07:24

@MamaW05 of course - Amanda Tozer from Aria Fertility just off harley street.

I had to have an intimate exam as part of the tests and she was very gentle, it didn't hurt at all. Also I'm now 9 months pregnant after the treatments she recommended. So, full hearted recommendation!

@Hoping4second oh wow congratulations that’s wonderful!!
argh so many recommendations for her but she is no longer taking recurrent miscarriage patients :(
can I ask if she prescribed anything other than progesterone for you? Trying to arm myself with as much info as poss about tests and treatment as really seems in some cases you need to advocate for yourself.
congrats again! I don’t know you but currently in the horrible position of post another MC and I welled some happy tears for you being on the other side :) x

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. Sending you lots of hugs.

She tested my thyroid levels too and put me on some medication because the results were a bit off, maybe that's something your gp could do? I'm now under gp care for it so maybe they can do the initial testing as well?

Also are you under the care of your miscarriage clinic? Because they knew my nearby hospital had a very long waiting time so told me to go to the next closest hospital for my recurring miscarriage referral. I didn't in the end because the waiting time was still pretty long and i was already 39 yo then so went private but my point is : if you're in contact with professionals maybe you can ask them about the waiting times, they might have an idea of where the queue is shortest.

Best of luck ❤️❤️❤️
