I'm supposed to be 9 weeks pregnant today but found out yesterday that baby stopped growing at 7+3. I've opted for medical management with misopropstol but I need to know what actually ^happens.

For me, knowledge is power and makes everything less overwhelming.

Has anyone been through this and can tell me what to expect in the next 24-48 hours? Pain, bleeding, cramps etc, online resources are all very woolly about the mechanics

Hi, it’s not great.
But obviously it’s very individual how your body reacts, not everyone has the same experience.

For me it was extremely painful, I had contractions, severe blood loss and ended up going to A&E for morphine and gas and air pain management as the codiene didn’t touch the pain.

I believe that the the surgical option is better, it’s done in minutes with very fast physical recovery.

Thank you. I've already stated with this route now in the last hour, so I'm a bit stuck with that course of action now Sad

Do you have strong pain relief?

Hey, I have had medical management twice, one when baby died at 5 weeks, and one at 11 weeks. I guess you have had misoprostol and sent home? If so, this is what I had for the 5 week baby. I had heavy bleeding for maybe 4 or 5 days, but only a bit worse than period bleed, then carried on bleeding, slightly lighter for another 2 weeks. Weirdly, I passed the "tissue" at the end of this 2 weeks, and then it was all over. I only needed paracetamol, it was like strong period pains for me for the first couple of days but that was it. The 11 week one was in hospital and much more bleeding, but had oral tablets and pessaries to pass the baby while in hospital. Even with the 11 week baby I would say it was like mild contractions, again paracetamol was fine. Everyone and every situation is different, but didn't want to read and run. I am so sorry this is happening to you too x

Hi I have just recently gone through something similar. I was almost 10 weeks and it stopped growing at 8. I opted for medical management too.

It started last Wednesday. I inserted the misodrisprol in the morning around 9/10 and lay down. I also took codiene and an anti sickness tablet as that's what the hospital prescribed me. The process began about two hours later. I did get strong strong pains. Not as bad as labour but stronger than period pains. I just kept up with taking pain relief through out the day. I also started to bleed quite heavily. I could feel myself passing clots in the toilet. ( sorry if that is too much info) I personally couldn't look at what I was passing I just saw lots of blood in the toilet, on the pad and tissue. I also know everybody's pain threshold is different. I found lying down in bed for most of the day the best way to deal with it. The pain for me was only intense for a few hours and then felt like normal period pain. A week and a half later my bleeding has stopped. I did a pregnancy test out of curiosity ( I know it's early) and it still had a faint line.
Sorry for the huge response. I hope I've helped in some way. Please feel free to ask me any questions and I'll do my best to answer.
Sorry you're going through this Thanks

Hi, I literally had medical management for my mmc on Sunday. I was kept in hospital for the duration.
I had the misoprostol put directly onto my cervix at 3pm. By 6pm the cramps were quite bad but a nurse very kindly and secretly made up my hot water bottle! Suddenly at around 8.30pm they became unbearable. I was in the most excruciating pain I've ever been in (and I have two boys aged 4 & 2 so can say this was much worse than their labours). I also felt like I needed to push. I went and squatted on the toilet and passed a few clots, then was finally brought some dihydrocodeine. This took about 2 hours to kick in and they were the worst two hours of my life. The pain was agonising. However - as soon as it did, everything became so much more manageable. The bleeding continued like a period, and I was able to get some rest (waking for obs and another dihydrocodeine) until around 5am, when the pain woke me up and I felt I needed to push. I went and squatted over the toilet again and passed the placenta and pea sized sac with our tiny babe in. I was in a lot of shock as I wasn't expecting there to be so much placenta/obvious tissue.
I bled quite lightly on Monday, but on Tuesday/Wednesday it was more like a regular period. Yesterday and today it has got much lighter. My stomach aches still but it is getting better.
I shared a longer length version on the support thread but hopefully this helps you and isn't too late. So so sorry you are experiencing this. Thanks

Hope you are ok @StylishMummy Thanks

Thank you for your messages and comments. I thought I passed everything on Friday night but I passed the foetus yesterday onto toilet paper, it was tiny but I could see tiny limb buds Sad

Still in a lot of pain and I have hideous diarrhoea and cramps still. I dearly hope all of the pregnancy has passed and I don't need anything further in terms of management. It's been the worst weekend of my life & having to be mum to my DC while losing their sibling has broken me

Hi, I had a MMC last February and it was my first, I also had medical management and it’s honestly something I’ll never forget.
I had the medical management in hospital, they inserted a tablet into the V, and then it was just a waiting game. I lost a lot of blood and get getting blockages because of blood clots, by the early hours of the morning it still hadn’t passed, and so they told me if nothing happened in the next hour I’d need to go to theatre and I was so scared, I almost needed a blood transfusion with the blood I lost, but luckily it passed and I left the following day. It is painful but not much worse than a bad period. It’s not nice to go through but you’ll be ok Smile xx
