Clomid - does it work?

Two previous miscarriages, diagnosed with PCOS. One child already. Been trying for almost 4 years. I've been given clomid or 'clomifene'- any success stories?

Bump, Im in a similar situation, 2 DC, 2 and 4, mc a year ago and still ttc no.3. Just turned 40 and awaiting scan as ive had unusual spotting and severe exhaustion every month always after ovulation. Then looking into going to the fertility clinic. Not sure they'd give clomid on NHS as we've got Dcs already or if that's just IVF that's not provided.

Did your GP prescribe clomid or a specialist? My endocrinologist referred me to ACU for clomid but they prescribed letrozole (alongside monitoring scans) instead, which they said was a newer and better drug with fewer side effects but does the same thing as clomid. In any case, we conceived on 3rd cycle after having to up the dose a couple of times.

@emsie12345 yes you can have letrozole again for a second child on the nhs so presume the same for clomid. I took my 3month old to my endo appt and the consultant told me just to let him know when we were ready to try for no2 and he would send me a prescription over.

I have PCOS, Clomid gave me my eldest on the first cycle of taking it after 4 years of trying. It was consultant gynaecologist through preconception clinic (I'm T2 diabetic) that prescribed it. Good luck 🤞

Thankyou GuidingSpirit good to know!

Hi there,

I first saw my GP and then had investigations done into why I was having irregular periods. Had scans, bloods etc and shown that I have PCOS. I was in touch with a gynae specialist who done further tests such as urine bottles and checking I was ovulating. She then prescribed me provera to take (incase I don't have a period) and then clomid to take when my period comes.

My period is due in a few days so will be taking my first course.

Hi, thank you for your comment.

That sounds promising. I hope we will have the same luck.

Hi OP, I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2006 through a private fertility clinic. I was prescribed Clomid, I honestly can't remember the dose but it was at that time the lowest starting dose, that I do recall. I conceived my DS on the second cycle. This was via IUI as I'm a lesbian. When I came to have my second child five years later I had all the tests again and there was no sign of PCOS. I suspected it might be the case as the PCOS symptoms I used to have had vanished. I remember the consultant (one of the top famous ones!) saying that sometimes they see such a phenomenon - the process of pregnancy seems to re-set the body and it learns what it should be doing. I didn't need Clomid the second time and conceived DD naturally on the first cycle of IUI at age 36.

It's a while ago so protocols and drugs will have changed, but I wanted to pass on a positive story. Good luck to you and others in the same or similar boats Smile

Hi, not from personal experience cause I went to IVF straight away, but I do know people that clomid work with the 1st try

Hi everyone,
Not sure if this thread is still active but wanted to hear from people who have had clomid, if it's worked and what sort of dosage they have had. Would love to hear some success stories and particularly if older!
