MC due to thin lining?

Hi :-)
I posted this in infertility as I never realised there was a MC board (doesn't come up on the usual Talk options).

Has anyone had a mc and it was explained by a thin lining please? I've had 4 natural early mcs now - latest was last cycle.

I've also had 3 failed rounds of IVF and every time, the lining was 7mm 'on the thin side' - and that was with estrogen supplements.

I have progynova left over... so decided to take 2mg at ovulation this cycle, incase I'm miscarrying in my natural pregnancies as the lining isn't thick enough to continue to develop the pregnancy.

Anyone else done this? Appreciate your thoughts!

(I've had all the mc investigations done/ womb reshaped/ on Clexane etc etc but still miscarried last cycle.)

xxx

Bumping again... anyone out there with a thin lining?

Didn't want to leave this unanswered. Im really sorry for your losses. I'm going through a mmc atm and it's awful.
I'm not sure if a thin lining could explain the losses, I know ivf clinics like a thick lining because obviously there is more chance of the embryo sticking. I have a thin lining, my first fet it only got to 6mm and the cycle was cancelled, the second transfer it was 8mm and they went ahead and transferred but I started bleeding before otd. This one obviously worked on a 7.8mm lining BUT I had my progesterone levels checked the day before transfer and it was low, so they added in lubion injections aswell as the pessaries.. it seemed to have done the trick this time but unfortunately it ended in mmc. Have you had your progesterone levels checked ?

Some women just naturally have a thin lining. But it doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. Mine never seems to get above 8, and that's with the highest dose of estrogen.

The doctors told me some women struggle to absorb the progynova and it's possible to do a fet with stims instead of synthetic drugs so you're using your bodies own natural estrogen

@whatagloriousthingtobe thanks so much for sharing and I'm really sorry to hear about your mmc. Lining is a bit of a pickle to me! I can get pregnant naturally (oddly as IVF never worked for me), it's just ending in mc 4 times. I had my progestrone levels checked last time at 5 weeks preg and they were good (with pessaries, I always take them now just in case)... so I thought this time I'll try estrogen too in case lining is causing mc.

It's tricky and I very much appreciate your insights xxx

@Rachae have the hospital done tests? I thought after 3 losses they run tests ? Sorry you're going through this. This is my first experience of a mc and it's just horrible can't imagine it happening four times, bloody cruel it is.

Rachae · 09/11/2021 16:59

Hey @whatagloriousthingtobe yea I've had them all except NK cells testing. I've been under the NHS (they're basic tests didn't find anything) - then referred to the specialist unit at St. Mary's. So I had a uterine septum removed, they found a blood clotting pattern (prescribed Clexane) and recommended progestrone.

Quite frustrating to then mc once more after all of that... hoping it was just bad luck xx

@Rachae I thought that once you start the progesterone/ovulate your body naturally sort of compressed the lining, so I'm not sure of estrogen would do anything.

I'm sort of similar maybe. I have a 5 1/2 year old dc. Then fell pregnant once pretty quickly when trying for dc2 with early mc, then no joy for years. Tried clomid, letrazole, tamoxifen, surgery to unblock a tube (that turned out to not be blocked) with ovarian drilling and the surgery notes said "prominent midline septum". Have had 5 failed (no bfp at all) rounds of ivf plus a ridiculous amount of tests, dummy cycles etc. Had all the drugs (viagra, max doses estrogen, neupogen, clexane, aspirin) as my lining always struggles to thicken enough. Then went for a saline sonogram (mr lower off Harley street) who discovered it wasn't a septum but a big adhesion in my uterus acting like a coil! So, had surgery to remove big adhesion, remove a big cyst and also tidy up my c-section niche (otherwise bacteria might build in the fluid that naturally gathers there). Fell pregnant the next cycle, but am currently miscarrying at 5 1/2 weeks. I am hoping that now I have no big adhesion stuck to the side of my uterus that my lining can thicken on its own but I just don't know.

I was told for years that a septum wasn't a problem, no need to look at it closer etc. I am pretty furious still at all those missed years when I had what is essentially a barrier in the way. So, maybe consider a saline sonogram to double check it is definitely a septum and not an adhesion as they can be misdiagnosed.

Hey @seven201 thanks so much for your response. I'm so so sorry to hear what you've been through already and I really appreciate you sharing your story. I will certainly look into all of the above if this current pregnancy doesn't work out. I've been taking the 2mg since ovulation and I've also seen the strongest lines on tests I've ever seen. mine have only been faint before...not out of the woods yet of course, and no evidence that it is the estrogen. But you never know xx

@Rachae no problem. Best of luck with the pregnancy.

rosesareredandpink · 23/01/2023 17:27

@RachaeWondering how it’s going for you and if you made any progress? I hope so 🤞🏼and if anyone can provide insights re thin lining.

I’m in a similar position. I’ve got a thin lining. Despite it looking healthy and with triple layer, it is still only 6.5min. It was 5mm last time so it has improved after removing a uterine septum a couple of months ago. I’m on the highest dose of eastrogen, although only in tablet form, and it’s still thin.

I’ve had two different decisions from my clinic as my original doctor is on paternity leave and I don’t know what to do. My new doctor told me not to go ahead but after she spoke with my original doctor they’ve come back and said to give it a go.

seven201 · 26/01/2023 20:53

@rosesareredandpink my latest ivf dr said he think estrogen patches work better for some women. I was on 12mg a day plus 200 patches changed every 48hr in the end. No idea if that is what pushed my lining up enough for a transfer, or if it was just luck.

For what it's worth since I last posted I've had two more miscarriages (one from the above transfer) and I'm under a specialist private miscarriage clinic now (and being treated for immune issues) and they are very unconcerned about lining thickness (I'm doing letrazole rounds, it's like clomid, at the mo). The doctors there say miscarriage isn't down to thin linings (no idea if they're right!).

Rachae · 23/02/2023 14:13

@rosesareredandpink I'm pleased to tell you that that pregnancy did work! My son is 7 months old. I definitely put it down to taking the progynova tablets and believe they kept my lining thick enough. I stopped taking them around 12 weeks. Hope all is well with you xxx
