Recurrent Miscarriage Glasgow - Private

Noone wants to be here do they?!?
I've seen previous posts but all quite old or unanswered. As is the case in a lot of places, NHS waiting lists here are long! After 3 MCs we just want to get on with the tests if possible.
London clinics are out due to travel, but I guess Manchester might be possible just for tests.
So, any private recurrent miscarriage clinics that anyone knows of, preferably Glasgow or Scotland, but anything down to Manchester considered!
(not much emotion here, I'm in the "getting things done" mind frame just now)

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your miscarriages.

We went to GCRM near Cardonald a few years ago after our third MC. It's a fertility clinic primarily, but they were able to do all the tests we needed including checking for uterine killer cells which was fairly new at the time. There was a lovely consultant nurse at the QUEH I saw too, can look out her name if it may help. She arranged the blood tests and eventually an MRI. Her and the consultant gyne I saw there were really supportive and helpful.

All the best.

Thanks @Badgergirl123, I'm in touch with the GCRM although so far they're offering fertility tests, but I am in touch and it's good to know you had a good experience with them.
The QEUH staff have all been really supportive, and I have nothing against NHS treatment other than the waiting time!
Sorry to hear you had to go through all this too, thanks for replying!

Hi ladies. Just following up on this thread. Did either of you have any luck with Scotland based private clinics? Or if not, Where did you end up going?

Hi, this will be pretty factual and explanatory. (No emotions etc, I'm struggling at the moment, so facts it will be)
We (husband and i) am currently in the process of tests at GCRM. I will update this thread but as I don't have the consultation until mid November, I was going to wait until then.
So far though, we've had general fertility tests (to check eggs "stocks" and semen, as well as an ultrasound for womb shape. I've also just had a blood test to check thyroid function.
I'm going to ABC4D to have the blood test for sticky blood, because GCRM currently don't have a provider for that, but the results will be sent to GCRM. And, GCRM have requested the results of my miscarriage tissue testing to be sent from QEUH, as I can't get the results over the phone.

So...a long message. Be prepared for GCRM to send you everything to do with IVF and info regarding not being able to get pregnant rather than stay pregnant. There's a couple of months waiting list there, so there's still a long wait. Now I'm in, my consultant seems excellent (he's in touch by email). But until that point it felt very much like an IVF clinic.

Only once we'd had the first "tests" did anyone respond to my recurrent miscarriage specific tests plea. The consultants name is Dr Mariano M...something. I would definitely ask for him as he's the recurrent miscarriage specialist.

I can update again in a couple of weeks once I've got any sort of results.

I'll be honest, the fight to get tests even when you are paying for them has been really hard! (And surprising). I hope you have a good experience!

Hi,
Sorry for jumping on this post.
First of all I am sorry for your losses, I really do feel your pain.
I have just experienced my 3rd early miscarriage this year and I am looking to get testing done privately as my GP has been really unhelpful.
I have been looking at GCRM actually so would love to follow this thread.
I just can't understand why getting help for this seems to be such a struggle.
I have emailed GMRC today but I think I might be better phoning. I really hope everything goes well with your tests.

@Nicham29, its not a nice place to be is it?!

Ok, so update to above:

GCRM will run tests, but you are better to ring them as their email replys are generic without consideration for recurrent miscarriages.

Once you have an assigned consultant with GCRM things start moving! My thyroid (TSH) test came back a little high, so I've been in touch with my GP for prescriptions. He is excellent and is running some extended thyroid blood tests to check if this is something just to consider whilst TTC or more long term.

GCRM and ABC4D don't have the capacity to run the antiphospholipid tests ("sticky blood") at the moment, as the blood needs to be recieved by the lab within 8 hours, and there isn't the means to do this when the lab is in London.
I was in the process of trying to ring labs in London to find out how to get this done, when I got called by the NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic in QEUH.

So, I am now on the NHS system aswell, they are going to run a full blood screen. (its just over 3 months since my last confirmed miscarriage, so that gives you an idea of current waiting time at QEUH, they did say they wouldn't look at a file until 3 months after 3rd miscarriage, so that was accurate)

So far, my experience is always quite positive when it comes to the actual tests, and contact and results. But is pretty poor in trying to book things to start with and find out any information. However, I am definitely an advocate of asking to speak to a different dr at your surgery, or just moving clinics, as I have had a really positive experience with mine. (He is a male dr and can empathise/sympathise but is excellent at recognising he has not been through this. He's quite scientific but good!)

So - Nicham29, be prepared for a few months wait, even going private. Be prepared to wait for bloodtests, then more bloodtests.
Be prepared to wait 3 months to be seen at QEUH (assuming that's where you went)

Best of luck!

Hello, I realise it's been a while since this thread was updated. I was just wondering if there was an update as to how all your tests went? I am currently going through mc number 3. We have no children and have just been referred to the recurrent mc clinic. Feeling so down at the moment and very betrayed by my body 😔

123456Abc · 11/02/2023 09:25

Hi @Cockapoomum1
I'm sorry to hear your going through a third miscarriage. It's such a horrible place to be, I felt exactly the same about my body letting me down.
My story has a positive outcome, I'm not going to make promises for you but I'll finish off my story.

One thyroid level was raised from the private tests that were done, my gp ran a full thyroid check (three tests, TSH, Free T4, and Antibodies). They were all within normal adult ranges, but the recurrent miscarriage Dr picked up that they were all borderline. This is fine in everyday life, but the recomended window for tsh is narrower in TTC and pregnancy than otherwise. She seeked advice and I was prescribed thyroxine for an underactive thyroid and my TSH levels were checked every 4-6weeks.

I am now mum to a 7months old daughter, so have been extremely lucky with tests, recurrent miscarriage Dr, and support during pregnancy.

Pregnancy after miscarriage seems very different to without, you need to work at staying positive.

Are you glasgow based? I can dig out the names of the Dr's I saw if so.

It's not always easy to read positive stories without knowing if it'll be you, so I won't mind if you don't reply!

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to stay positive. Reading all the positive outcomes keeps that little bit of hope alive. I am based in Ayrshire. I had some hormone tests done last year by my GP which showed no issues and all my routine bloods have been ok. Just waiting for the referral now which from what I can gather can take quite a while 😔 I have also had tissue sent for testing this time around. Really hoping for some answers but at the same time knowing they don't always find an answer.

123456Abc · 11/02/2023 13:51

@Cockapoomum1 well done for staying positive!
I know my referral to qeuh (Glasgow) recurrent miscarriage clinic, is always delayed by 3months so they can run all the blood tests. There's probably also some waiting time but If you've already had some/all of the tests done they may be able to help sooner?

Last thing to note, as I tried to say above, from the tests, the numbers might be fine for everyday, but maybe not for conceiving/pregnancy, so if your gp interpreted them they may not have the specialist knowledge for your case. (I'm not saying anything bad about Gps!)

You sound like you're managing to stay positive, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Remember to look after yourself!
