Ectopic hcg rollercoaster

Hi, I was wondering if anyone's had an ectopic pregnancy where HCG levels have been a bit up and down and how they managed/ dealt with it in the end?

I would be 7wk+1 today, however, started bleeding pretty much as soon as I got a bfp on wk5 (still spotting). Got referred to EPU for a scan where they couldn't see anything but then went back when I had pains in lower left abdomen and they confirmed ectopic c.14mm.. Levels have been 184, 327, 477, 461, 424, 551.

Devastated as we've been TTC for 6 months and this is our first. Am hesitant to go for methotrexate as we would like to try again soon (I'm 35 with endometriosis and the chemo doesn't sound fun), however, would also like this to be over with and worried about damaging my tube if I wait too long (is that a thing?)

I'm going in for another scan tomorrow and it sounds like they're going to recommend the methotrexate (they're drawing up paperwork).

Would appreciate stories and thoughts x

I've had 2 ectopics - both ruptured in the end and I lost both tubes but they did try methotrexate with the first one

Personally with your levels staying rather static it could be weeks before they reach zero to enable you to have another to period and start TTC

I know it's upsetting but whether you have methotrexate or not the advice is to wait 3 months before TTC - as even if you don't have the drug damage will have been done to the tube - it will have stretched etc and your body needs time to recover especially as the ectopic has been in there a few weeks already

I would take the MTX and get the process started otherwise you could wait a few more weeks then have to have it anyway as it doesn't sound like your body is able to resolve this one itself x

Thanks @ivfgottwins that's helpful. I think you're right, it's not really resolving itself, as hard as it is to hear. I think taking the 3 months to focus on my health and enjoy the summer will make me feel productive rather than seeing it as time lost.

I'm sorry what you had to go through with both tubes. Hopefully your name suggests you came through the other side with doubly good news x

Just to follow up for posterity, I got MTX on Tuesday and had my first follow up 3 days later (normally would be day 4 but it's a weekend).
The great news is there's been an 85% drop to 74 HCG which is great. The nurses were pretty excited as they usually expect it to go up first. Fingers cross it falls below 20 soon and it means this particular episode is over. Only symptom has been tiredness though I've been pretty knackered since the whole thing started.

Although this wasn't the pregnancy experience I'd hoped for, I'm super grateful it was caught early enough that I had a choice and it wasn't straight to surgery, and that the conditions were right that MTX worked well. Reading through other people's threads has been amazing - the positive stories giving me hope and the ones less so letting me know I'm not alone. Hopefully this little crumb will help someone else in the future.
