Recurrent miscarriage aged 41

I'm just having my third miscarriage. We left it till I was 37 ttc. (we met at 35) had a mc at 35 mmc at 37 and now ar 41.

Obviously two years between each pregnancy is not normal either, and, for them to fail is so ... I can't even think of the word~ unfair?

After 2nd loss We are seen by the fertility consultant at local hospital (due to age and no children) who was just about to refer us for ivf when i conceived. She did all the tests for recurrent mc. I lost 2 stone for the referral.

Anyway just wondering what you would do? Private consult? Ava bracelet/ more blood tests/ give up.

@cherrypiepie I'm so sorry you are going through this. You are right, it is so unfair. I've had an MMC, an MC and failed IVF and very recently a failed IUI. I do, however, have a teenage DD but DH and I are trying thave our first baby together.

DH and I have had tests done and we are fine so I believe my sub fertility is to do with my age. I'm 43.
I too don't know what to do next.

But you said that you were just about to be referred for IVF. Is that not still an option?

I've used the femometer to track my BBT and OPK's but I felt like it was all so mechanical and I was left quite disheartened month in month when I was pregnant.

Have you been taking vitamins? Xx

@cherrypiepie- So sorry for your losses. I almost could have written your post myself! Started TTC age 32, lost weight and finally conceived age 38! That pregnancy had patau syndrome (trisomy 13). If I actually managed to go to term and didn't have a still birth, it would have died very soon after birth, so we chose TFMR.

A year later, I MC'd at 7 weeks.

Yet another year later, I'd paid for private fertility tests and finally got seen by the NHS for IVF. By then, I was 40 and only qualified for 1 round on the NHS. Some areas don't provide any, so I was lucky, but it was still frustrating.

I had the IVF and the they put in 2 embryos. Unfortunately, despite seeing a heart beat at 8 weeks, I MC at 9 weeks that time.

I then had a 2nd round of IVF in Dec last year and didnt get pregnant.

At least you managed to get to the recurrent MC clinic. I was referred, then 6mths later when I inquired, was told it had been cancelled as my 1st loss didn't qualify as a miscarriage! I was fobbed of by my GP in my initial TTC journey, told to relax and all would be well. I finally had a day 21 blood test, told it was normal and carry on. In hindsight, and learning alot on MN, I should have insisted on referral to the fertility clinic earlier. Were you able to get any of the miscarriages tested for genetics? During the 2nd MC, they wouldnt test for genetics, but did actually test to see that yes, there was a foetus, placenta etc and not a blighted ovum. During the 3rd MC, they allowed me to bring the products in so I got genetics tests on that one. Sorry, if this is grim, but it gave me a great deal of insight into why the pregnancy failed.

I know you had tests at the recurrent MC clinic, but did they do the same as a fertility clinic? Hycosy or HSG, STI check, thyroid, hormones, AMH, semen analysis etc?

I use a saliva opk, because I never get a positive with the urine ones- despite knowing that I do ovulate. Do you chart your cycle on an app? Are you back on the list for IVF now? Have you read 'It starts with an egg'? I recommend it. I just bought a 2nd hand copy off ebay , but do check its the newer version. What are your next steps and any idea of timelines for IVF in your area? Happy to answer any questions you might have Flowers

@Foundmyfeet @Elouera
Thank you so much for your replies. And sharing your experiences . They are so helpful and so make me feel less alone l. I feel caught in a gap between infertile and recurrent loss (lots of recurrent loss patients have multiple losses
Each year)

I am still "pregnant" at the moment (8+4). I have had 2 scans 10 days apart and the embryo hasn't grown properly but the gestational sac and yolk sac have, but still commensurate with gestation of less than 6 weeks. But they cannot diagnose miscarriage. I have to have a third scan and if I don't meet the mc criteria (no fetal pole or no heartbeat on embryo more than 7mm) or they can see a healthy embryo they will ask a consultant to call it. So I go in 8.15 Tuesday nil by mouth and expecting to have surgical management the same day.

They will test the products this time.

I have another consult on 14 July when they will refer me for ivf but I've out on weight with the stress and pregnancy (damn Nutella)Confused

I have bbt and pre mom app but I'm not keen (since the changed it)

Also it's a pain and not always accurate bbt and opks. It's ok for a few months but not years and years. I did find out I ovulated on day 17 ish and have short luteal phase. So I might buy an ava.

I have been taking pregnacarw preconception vits and vit d. Also took co enzyme q10 for a month before I conceived. But it's £30 a month so it fine short term but not years!

Sometimes it think we just don't 'try' enough either but now it feels futile.

I have had hsg/ thyroid/ semen/ Sti/ thrombophilla/ rubella/ progesterone / ultrasound. I have been told they are all normal but do not have the results.

I haven't had amh yet. I'm not sure how the referral to fertility clinic works.

I think I will buy and Ava bracelet, lose the extra kilos and then for the referral. I will get the book it starts with an egg .

I have told my employer and she has been great. I will have next week off sick but I'm only just hanging on at the moment.
