Advise on medically managed miscarriage

Following a post I did yesterday after my 4th miscarriage was confirmed. (4th in a row in the space of 12 months)

The sac had stopped growing at 7 weeks or just there after and I had a scan yesterday at 9 weeks +4 to confirm that. I haven't bled or had cramps, I have had some light brown when I wipe. But nothing on a pad. So my body isn't recognising the loss yet. So I have chosen medical miscarriage and I start that on Monday.
All my previous miscarriages have happened naturally by themselves.

Upon reading about it, people truly have some horror stories let me say. Is it really that bad? I want to do it purely to speed up the process so I can get back to "normality" can anyone share their experience or advise on having a medically managed miscarriage? I've been told I can take it home and do it all at home and not have to stay at the hospital

MollySxx, I’m so sorry about your MMC and your previous losses.

My experience, if it helps was, I had a sac which stopped growing at 8 weeks, diagnosed at 10 weeks (blighted ovum). I waited for a natural miscarriage, and then had a medical miscarriage. I found it very manageable, although I know that isn’t everyone’s experience.

I got the doctor to administer the drugs (I didn’t want to have to do that) and afterwards OH drove me home. I did start to get shakes pretty soon after the drugs - like I was really cold.

Once home, I got into bed with some food, a hot water bottle and napped. It started 4hrs later. I managed the pain with hot water bottles/ hot showers. I found it as okay as it could be.

I hope you are okay with whatever route you choose.

@Cupofcampbellssoup thank your for your response✨

I have chosen to do the medical miscarriage to just speed it up if anything. Last night I started bleeding naturally, but just a light period. So I think it'll be a long process if I do it myself considering my sac stopped growing at 7 weeks and I didn't find out till 9+4 at a scan. I have the appointment tomorrow at 10am and I'm hoping it'll work and be somewhat over by midweek

Hello, sorry for your loss. I had a medical management last week, this was my second miscarriage. First happened naturally at 9 weeks second I found out at our 12 week scan. I choose this route, to also speed up the process. I also opted to stay in hospital to be monitored for blood loss as I lost alot of blood last time and was admitted to hospital. The first set of medicine didn't work for me and I then had more every 3hours until they couldn't give me anymore. I found the pain really hard to manage and had gas and air. It really felt like contractions and I can only imagine this is what labour is like. I was then kept in hospital for 3 days as after scans the placenta still hadn't passed. I was then booked for surgery on day 4 but didn't have it in the end as I just wanted to go home and be comfortable and hope that it would pass on its own. It did after 5 days. I'm still struggling with cramps and back pain if I do too much so what ever you choose to do make sure you rest up. Hope this doesn't worry you, everyone is different and I hope your process is as manageable as it can be at this sad time. X

@Spotsmama I'm so sorry for your losses and sorry for this experience🥺

All my 3 miscarriages have started on their own, bled naturally and all passed naturally. So I never had any help medically, did it all myself. With this one, my body didn't recognise the pregnancy was failing. I did start bleeding last night with fresh red blood. And it's not overly heavy, but I am cramping currently. But not in pain. I just went the medical route as I want it over as soon as possible and not trust my body to do it, itself since it took a while to know the failing pregnancy. So I don't have much faith and confidence in my body right now

@MollySxx Hope you are okay today

MollySxx · 22/03/2021 15:29

@Cupofcampbellssoup I'm as okay as okay can be, was at the hospital this morning and I've been bleeding myself since Saturday, but nothing heavy, haven't been in any pain at all. Had small cramps yesterday and passed a clot and the small cramps stopped. They told me to keep anything I passed and I did. They are going to test that. But I had a scan and it showed I've passed the miscarriage myself/absorbed it. Said my womb still looked thick, but my first cycle should shed that. And I've done it naturally. So didn't need the medical management after all. And they are referring me back to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. So that's a waiting game, but the end is near and hopefully won't have to deal with this bleed much longer and can just move on...

@MollySxx I’m glad it’s underway. I hope the bleeding stops soon, the recurrent miscarriage clinic are prompt and helpful, and most of all, that you take care of yourself xx

MollySxx · 22/03/2021 21:23

@Cupofcampbellssoup I hope the recurrent miscarriage are a bit more helpful this time around. I feel like my last appointment with them (Over the phone) was all of 10 minutes and they just palmed me off with progesterone pessaries. And my progesterone wasn't even checked to see if that was the issue. I have a lot of questions for them and I won't be settling for "this is just bad luck" no time is bad luck, but the 4th loss definitely isn't. I'm a woman on a mission now

Im so sorry this has happened to you.
I have had 2 miscarriages. My first one I was 6 weeks and it happened at home. My second, I'd been for an early scan at 7 weeks as I'd had fertility treatment, so this is what the clinic offered. Then at 11 weeks, I had a little brown discharge when I wiped so I booked another scan for the following morning, where sadly they told me the babies heart had stopped. They thought the baby had died 2 weeks due to their size.

I had a medical management 5 days later as they said there could be a risk of infection if left any longer.

Everyone's experience is different. With mine, they inserted tablets vaginally, and gave me tablets orally. They told me you would usually start to bleed after a couple of hours, however my bleeding didn't start until 10 hours later. It was painful. I'm glad I was at the hospital as they eventually gave me a morphine injection to ease the pain which helped a lot. Also what they were able to do was send some of the placental tissue off to be tested to see if there are any reasons for the miscarriage, especially if you've had this happen multiple times. I got the results back a few weeks later which came back clear. Whatever you choose wont be easy. It was a hospital in manchester I was in. Each woman was in a private room and you could have someone with you. The nurse would come in every couple of hours to see how I was and if I needed anything. The one good thing was the pain management so I was really glad to have been in hospital. I really hope it all goes as ok as it can do for you x

Hi so i was told i had a misscarriage at 8 weeks. I was carrying natural convieved identity triplets, first scan showed only one. They told me to wait a week for a natural misscarriage. I went for another scan and they found all three no heart beats. They told me thay couldnt do anything for 2 weeks. And that if it was one child then the outcome of that day would have been diff6and they would have offered me ways to terminate. But instead they said wait two weeks. 3 weeks in total. I went back they said they wil give me a d and c a day later. I tested postive with covid on the day of the op with no symptoms so they cancelled it and said call back the following monday to check for availability because im infectious they need to do it in a seperate room. Called them today and they said yes come on in.

They called me at 10 to 10 and said they couldnt do the d and c because the local anesthetic can cause newmonia. (Cant spell it sorry) and if i required a d and c i would need to wait 7 weeks. So the only option i have is medical management. The tablets. Its pissed me off big time because ive also been told i have a water infection and now on antibiotics. Ive had to wait 4 weeks to get some management. But im worried incase the tablets dont work and i contract sepsis because how are they going to remove the rest of the tissue of i cannot have a d and c.

Im so stressed and i cannot believe ive been treated like this by the nhs
