Pain 3 weeks after TFMR at 16 weeks

Three weeks ago I delivered our son at 16 weeks gestation after a termination for medical reasons - he was given no chance of survival after birth due to complex structural abnormalities.
11 days later I started getting awful period type pains which got worse and I ended up passing a large clot. I was scanned and there was retained tissue - they said it was the sac and possibly some placenta, and that my cervix had reopened to try and get rid of it. They removed the tissue, gave me some misoprostal to encourage my body to shed the uterine lining and put me on antibiotics. I completed the course 5 days ago.
I have since stopped bleeding but since Friday I have been having contraction type pains, sometimes quite intensly. I phoned on Friday and they said without a temperature, bleeding or any smelly discharge I should just monitor it and let them know if it gets worse. They seemed sure they had removed the rest of the tissue.
I will probably phone the unit again in the morning if the pain doesn't improve. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar after a second trimester loss? Is it just uterus getting back to normal or should I be worried?
Thanks

@Kjro55 Firstly I'm so sorry for your loss and that you've had to go through this. It was truly the hardest time of my life.
After they sorted the retained tissue, I had pains on and off for a couple of weeks. My main worry was the TFMR had damaged my fertility for future pregnancies so I panicked a lot. The early pregnancy unit tried to reassure me that physically everything was settling and getting back to normal but I didn't believe them really.

One of the ultrasounds I had after the TFMR showed a cyst on my ovaries so I think the pain may have been this. The pains did subside soon after I made this post.
Please ask for help if things don't settle soon. I had an appointment with a gynaecologist a couple of months later and they again reassured me that I'd fully recovered.
Sending so much love and strength. I'm here if you want to talk some more xxx

Thank you so much for replying i have an internal scan next Friday but the pain is really worrying me!! Was yours like a sharp intermittent pain? Did you have any other symptoms at all? How did you see the eqrly pregnancy unit? And may i ask has it affected future pregnancies if you have tried yet? So sorry for all the questions xxxx

It was quite a constant dull pain that was sharp at times. I could self refer maternity triage/early pregnancy unit for 6 weeks after the TFMR and they were really helpful and reassuring. I think I was really paranoid about lasting damage so I was watching for every symptom and questioning every pain and ache.
About 4 weeks after the pain subsided I had a very heavy bleed which was very thick and clotty and I went to A+E where they gave me meds to slow it. I thought I was maybe miscarrying but they did a HCG and there were no signs of pregnancy.
I had another ultrasound about 5 weeks after this and the cyst had gone and my uterus looked normal so I think the bleed was maybe a 'clear out'.
I conceived again the next month (3 months after the TFMR) and now have a 15 month old boy. From the point of view of the TFMR it didn't effect conceiving or the physical side of the pregnancy, but it was psychologically very tough.
I'm so glad you have a scan next week - this should provide some reassurance that your body is returning to normal, or at least mean any problems are dealt with early on.
The weeks after the TFMR were so tough physically, mentally and emotionally. I hope you have support and you're looking after yourself. Do you have a bereavement midwife overseeing your care?
Always here if you have any more questions ❤
