Success stories after a missed miscarriage please

Good morning everyone!

So i was pregnant with my 3rd baby after about 7 months of trying. I was due july 19th.
Unfortunately at a routine midwife appointment they struggled to find a heartbeat, and was sent to ultrasound where they confirmed the worst. Baby had died.
I was supposed to be 17 weeks + 1, but baby was mesuring 14 weeks + 1 so had died several weeks before. I had no symptoms change, or any pain, bleeding or anything to indicate anything had happened.
Had to go into hospital to give birth to baby. (Born sleeping 12.02.2021) All went smoothly apart from my placenta not coming away. So had to go to theatre to have it removed. But again once in there all went smoothly😌

Anyway the point to my post (if you got this far!!) Is some success stories. I really want another baby, and as much as we was unfortunate to lose this baby, after two healthy pregnancies with no complications, the doctors and midwives said its more than likely our post mortem could come back inconclusive. It could have been a birth defect or many things, sometimes the reason is never known.
We have received the most amazing support from our midwives, and the charity SANDS.
We was advised we can start 'trying' when we are ready. Which is great. Im not going to within 2 weeks of this happening but it is obviously still on my mind.
Also, if anyones had similar, did you get more support & checkups? maybe extra scans?

Thankyou.
Xxxx

I am very sorry for your loss
I had a mmc at 12 weeks and surgical intervention
Then completely by accident and without realising it was possible I got pg 1 week later. My periods hasn’t returned so I was basically pg for a whole year
Physically I was absolutely fine and DD is 16 now. I also have a 12 year old DS who I conceived easily and again I had a healthy pregnancy.
Best of luck x

So sorry for your loss x have they also done blood tests to check for clotting antibodies in your blood? This was the cause of my miscarriages and can be a cause of second trimester miscarriage. Think of you xx

So sorry for your loss 💐glad to hear you are getting support.
I had a missed miscarriage and surgical intervention at 12 weeks. This was early November. First month trying again and I found out I was pregnant the end of jan. no issues at all and had a healthy baby in October. They offered an early scan at 7 weeks to check for a heart beat xx

I had three MMC between the ages of 41 and 45. Then I had DS. (under the care of the multiple mc clinic at St Mary's in London).

Yes i had all the bloods taken and we did deiced on a post mortem where they look into any causes/problems. We get a follow up appointment once all the results are back 😊

I did get my rainbow and throughout the pregnancy I had extra scans, every 2 weeks at first then every month.

Many trusts will have you as consultant led for future pregnancies - have they told you that will be the case?

The below information is from Greater Manchester NHS guidelines for how they manage 2nd trimester loss. The full document is online (and trigger warning due to the sensitive topic as it is a document for their employees with the intention of providing the best possible care for parents who experience this, so does contain scenarios) but the extract below should give you a starting point for what you should expect (and ask for if you don’t get) from the follow up once the post mortem is complete.

At Consultation

  1. Results of investigations
  2. Cause of miscarriage, if known
  3. Pre-pregnancy plan for next pregnancy
a. Smoking status b. Folic acid advice c. BMI optimisation d. Any psychological issues e. Other medical issues i. Medications ii. Pre-pregnancy other medical conditions.
  1. Pregnancy plan for next pregnancy
a. Book under Consultant Obstetrician b. Consider whether aspirin or LMWH are indicated c. Consider cervical length scans depending on presentation and likely cause of miscarriage d. Offer extra ultrasound scans for reassurance e. If CHI on placental histology discuss with Rainbow Clinic at St Mary’s or Wythenshawe - for commencement of aspirin, LMWH, prednisolone and hydroxychloroquine at 7 weeks gestation after an early viability scan, followed by close ultrasound surveillance.
  1. Consider extra precautions for post natal depression
  2. Write a letter to the parents as well as communicating with their GP

@littlegoth

Thats great im so glad you went on to have a successful pregnancy and rainbow baby.
Also good to hear about the extra scans, im definitely hoping this is somthing they will offer me.

Yes we have to wait for an appointment with a consultant to come in the post 🤞 it doesnt take too long.

@theDudesmummy

I'm just in the process of a missed miscarriage at 41, and I'm really worried about future ability to get pregnant etc, can you tell me a bit more about how you was eventually successful - thank you

theDudesmummy · 29/09/2021 07:59

Hi, the main thing I did was go to the miscarriage clinic at St Marys Paddington. Once I was pregnant I stayed under one of the consultants there, Mr Rai, for the whole pregnancy and the delivery (elective c/s). The cause of the miscarriages was never established, though.
