How to know you’ve passed all the miscarriage?

Hi everyone. I miscarried last night. Friday I went to the EPU after bleeding and the scan said the sac measured 5+1 but nothing inside. I was supposed to be 6 weeks, they said it could be too early or I could be losing the baby. Anyway, the next day I lose huge clots and something that I think was the pregnancy as it seemed to be the right shape.. it was very dark, almost black, jelly like, had what looked like a vein or something through it.. not sure if I’m allowed to add a photo of that here as it’s a bit... much. Anyway, I can’t clearly see that it was a sac or anything which is making me thinking what if that isn’t it? What if it’s still in me? The bleeding has lessened which is a good sign I suppose but I’m a little worried.

Thank you

It sounds like you've passed the sac from
Your description especially if your bleeding has reduced and you are passing no more clots

Hi - my EPU scanned me 2 weeks after to make sure it passed. Another EPU I worked at just told you to take a pregnancy test after 2-4 weeks and if negative will have passed.
So sorry

Sorry for your loss, I had 2 miscarriages before having my son. Just to let you know, after I had my son through c section I obviously bleed, as i got up to go to toilet next day i felt a massive lump fall to the floor a big lump of blood like a lump of liver! It was blackish and I was so scared. The nurse told me not to worry it was just that the blood clumped together. When I had my 2 miscarriages I bleed so much like after having my child. So try not to worry, it's probably what i had, but do check with professional if u need to.x

If the bleeding lessened after passing that big clot then yeh, that was the pregnancy. My experience of my spontaneous mc was a lot of bleeding, then bleeding and pain increased until I passed a sac and a few hours later the bleeding had significantly decreased.

@bumptobean I’m so sorry you are going through this - it’s really awful. I had a MMC in December. My bleeding actually happened in 2 stages. I had a sudden and heavy bleed with a couple of very large clots followed by a week of normal period bleeding, then another quite sudden heavy bleed with even larger clots than before. I hope for your sake that your MC is over, but if you do start bleeding again don’t worry. If you start getting pains / cramps try and stay home if you can as this can be a sign that something may be about to happen.

Try to relax as much as possible and look after your body. You will get through this!

*when I say normal period bleeding I mean that the bleeding was like being on my period, not that it actually was my period!

bumptobean · 24/01/2021 22:34

@Tartanblanket1000 Hi Tartan and thanks for your response. I didn’t actually know that could happen and I’m really sorry you had to go through that. To think it’s perhaps over and then suffer again is cruel. Sending you big hugs.

I’m really hoping the sooner this is over the quicker we can ttc again. I feel eager to fill this gap in my heart with ttc again really. I’m going to call the EPU tomorrow to find out if they would check if I have finished everything. I also would like to know what type of miscarriage I have - is that silly? I just feel like it would be a peace of mind knowing what type.. I feel a bit in limbo. X

@bumptobean Yes I was eager to TTC again too! This was my first pregnancy so I'm naturally feeling worried about things and just want to start trying again. For me the MC process was very drawn out and it was basically a month before the miscarriage was diagnosed as "complete" by the EPU. It felt like a life time! I got my period a few days ago so now I feel relieved that I can start trying again soon. It's felt like an age to wait, but all I can say is try to be patient with yourself and know that you will be able to TTC soon. Listen to advice from the EPU - they will probably book you in for scans every 2 weeks until the pregnancy is diagnosed as officially over. I wish you all the luck! xx

What do you mean what type of miscarriage you had? Epu won't be able to tell you much other than whether the miscarriage is complete or still incomplete unfortunately.

bumptobean · 26/01/2021 10:22

Ectopic, chemical, missed.. I didn’t even know if it’s complete or incomplete. Although have since spoken to EPU and got the answers I needed.
