Recurrent miscarriage and waiting on NHS miscarriage clinic referral

Hi,

So I quick summary. In 2015 I was pregnant with Identical twin girls, I lost them at 24 weeks with TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome) I gave birth to them both.

Fast forward to 2020, I fall pregnant in March and I miscarry at 9 weeks after a private scan showed no baby on the screen. An empty sac. We tried again in the June and it took us until October to fall pregnant again. I found out on October 24th and on the 31st I started bleeding and was told it was a chemical pregnancy because the hospital test came back negative, but I had positives the week before on blue dye tests and digital ones. I was 5 weeks pregnant. I then fell pregnant again straight after I presume, no period whole of the November, faint positives on tests, started bleeding heavily on December 13th and was told it was a miscarriage again.

And to now, I’ve had a pelvis ultrasound, came back with the lining of my womb fine, the womb fine, my ovaries just showed a small amount of cysts so was given blood tests to check for polycystic ovaries, got those results back and all came back clear and no further action needed. And I’ve had a period since the December loss.

Due to Covid I’m having to wait a bit longer for my miscarriage clinic referral appointment to come through. My doctor has given me the all clear to keep trying in the meantime. But I’m so fed up and drained with it. I just need advice if anyone has been referred to the miscarriage clinic and what was the outcome, if any. Because I’m very doubtful I’ll get answers.

Hey,

Sorry for all your losses :( I have been there, we lost our baby girl at 14w (she was sick, we had to terminate). This was in July 2019. After her, I miscarried twice. I was referred to the RMU at UCLH (3 months). I recommend, if you are in London. Despite deep investigations and some heavy treatments for blood clottind disease (April 2020), we suffered 3 other losses, the last one in Nov 2020. I moved straight to IVF (im 39 and my ovarian reserve is low). I am about to start my second round of IVF. They are also very good for that at UCLH.

Did your doctor (GP i suppose) give you a green light because he/she ran some blood testes? There are some quite easy to be done honestly (blood clotting diseases, thyroid diseases...). But i think these should be done, in my opinion.

I am here if you have any questions.
Take care xx

@Sophfr17 I had the blood clotting and thyroid tests. They were the first bloods I had before anything, they came back clear. That’s when I had the pelvis scan and the findings of that came back fine. Polycystic ovaries blood test, normal and clear.

I have since had the miscarriage clinic phone call and they are happy with my results and have come to the result that I have now progesterone since my miscarriages have all ended at 5/6 weeks. They said I needs to take progesterone from when I find out I’m pregnant until 16 weeks. And also will give me a scan at 6 weeks pregnant. I have also since found out I’m pregnant on Saturday just gone. Today is the first day of my missed period and I’m 4 weeks pregnant if I’m correct in counting it from the first day of my last period x

I was referred op.
After a load of tests, lots of hope, I was told everything is normal and that they have no idea of what causes 80% of miscarriages and so had no answers for me.
So that was that.
They said I could keep trying but it was highly likely that I would only continue to miscarry.

Hey @MollySxx, I am glad this has been checked. FYI, the blood clotting disease i have is the antiphospholipid syndrome, and the positive antibodies didn't appear in my blood until the 4th loss. Only the last two pregnancies were treated with aspirin, heparin, and progesterone of course. But it didnt work. There is a grey area in my medical files that my doctors dont understand. But with IVF, i will create some embryos that will be tested for chromosome abnormalities (PGS) to rule out any loss that could have be due to poor quality eggs. And they will increase my dose of heparin.
Gentle congratulations for your new pregnancy :) you are 4 weeks pregnant indeed^^ good that you will have an early scan. 6 weeks can be early, but at 6.5-7 weeks, there should be a heartbeat!
All the best, i hope you will give some good news in 2 weeks!
xx
