Should I have been given Anti-D?

I started bleeding at 9+3 only light and brown spotting - I wasn’t offered scan at EPU until 9 days later and was told baby had died couple of days prior. I know I’m Rhneg and husband + as have 2 other children - shouldn’t I have been given this when I first started bleeding? Could this be the cause of baby’s death? Can I find out the reason on nhs?

Any advice appreciated x

You dont normally get it if you're under 12 weeks i dont think

I was given the Anti-D injection after I had surgical management on Friday. I was 11 weeks. In kept telling them I'm RHneg and would I need another injection.

I’m getting the surgery on Tuesday if I make it, will keep asking them for the injection then.
I just can’t help wondering if it had something to do with baby’s death.... I know it doesn’t help to think like that now.

I had the same thought @LostFox82. My daughter was RHneg when she was born so they didn't give me a follow up jab at the time. I wondered whether the MMC was because of my RH neg status. However I am 41 so there is that.

I wish you all the best Thanks

@LostFox82 did you have anti d in your previous pregnancies? Did they do an antibody check on you?

dementedpixie · 20/01/2021 17:04

At 9 weeks the placenta hasnt fully formed so there won't be antibodies passing from the mother to the baby so it's unlikely that the miscarriage is anything to do with rhesus incompatibility. Sorry for your loss.

I think this is why you wouldn't normally get anti d if miscarriage happens before 12 weeks as there isn't a direct link between mother and the baby at that stage.

If you are going for surgery then I imagine they will give you anti-d according to this:

Yes @Mylittlesandwich I did get the jab after both babies. Just me wracking my brains for reasons 😕 I know they give you an injection of over 12 weeks and you have threatened miscarriage so was wondering why not relevant at 9.5w

@enola41 I also though my age - I’m nearly 39. I hope your baby if you plan to try again - I want to try a last time. I’ve been persuading my husband for 2 years to try again so a little frustrated he didn’t come round sooner after this mmc

@dementedpixie that’s good to know - I will have to just try to stop questioning it

Thanks all for your replies x

In that case it's very unlikely you could have developed rhesus disease. It's even more unlikely that could have caused issues in your pregnancy.

Trust me, I know what it's like to need a reason but unfortunately there usually isn't one. It's nothing you or anyone else did or didn't do.
