Should I contact doctor in new year

Just looking for advice on when you seen a doctor after having mc

Had my first mc at 8 weeks in June 2019 after trying for almost a year.

Been ttc since then and found out I was pregnant on Monday. Started bleeding on Thursday and phoned EPU who won't see me because I'm only 5 and a half weeks which is fine. They gave me advice and are of the opinion its a mc and I think so too. To do a test in 2 weeks to be 100% sure.

Second time took a year and a half and the first was almost a year and I'm worried now something might be wrong. I didn't contact the doctor after trying for over a year due to covid and felt I'd be wasting their time when there's more important things going on.

I'd like to speak to the doctor after the new year. I'm aware it will be over the phone and not in person with the current situation.

Just wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation and did they get referred for tests or anything? I stay in Scotland if thats relevant

@Trying93 I am really sorry for your loss.

I'm in Scotland too. I've had two miscarriages now, one at 12w another at 10w. It took us 18 months to conceive following the first miscarriage. I've unfortunately found my health board to be quite dismissive when I query investigations, they seem to use the mantra of "you need to have 3 in a row before we will take notice".

I would still recommend contacting your GP, you never know you might have more luck than me. Hopefully you will get someone who is willing to start looking into things for you.

@sakuramiyagi thanks, sorry to hear about your miscarriages.

Yeah I have heard that too unfortunately. I know someone who had 4 and the NHS wouldn't look into it. Luckily they got pregnant a 5th time and everything was okay.

It's just so frustrating that it could take another year and a half to get pregnant and that might end in a mc too.

I will phone in the new year. Thanks for replying and good luck ttc

I’m sorry for your loss, OP.
I had two ‘definite’ early MCs and one query because it was so early it could have just been a heavy period, but we couldn’t be sure. A very compassionate GP accepted this as a third MC and referred me. If I were you, I’d try and get that referral sooner rather than later to get into the ‘system’. There were delays years ago when I was referred, so I can only imagine wait times are super lengthy now. If it means a lot to you to know that things are all ok with TTC then you can get some peace of mind knowing that you’ve had the investigations. Of course you can still TTC in the meantime and it may just happen on its own anyway!
For what it’s worth, we had the tests, nothing amiss, and 4 years later we have a healthy 3 year old and healthy 6 month old to show for it. So please keep positive Smile (I personally think I can’t carry girls... no scientific basis for that but just a feeling I have!)

@Cloud1220 thanks its nice to hear a positive story. Im pleased it all worked out for you.

What tests did you get done if you don't mind me asking?

@Trying93 my partner and I both had blood taken and tested, I’m sorry I can’t even remember right now what they were testing for. I think that was the first stage of investigation and they’d have looked at other things if we’d had to go further. We actually had a positive pg test before we got the results back!! Also, along with the medical route I started a course of acupuncture. Could be pure coincidence, but I like to think that it helped. Certainly made me feel like I was taking positive steps and an hour a week to relax was lovely.

@Trying93

If you can't get the GP to refer you to a fertility specialist, I would still push them for other investigations. They could still test your hormone levels, thyroid function, for Antiphospholipid syndrome & other clotting disorders. That would at least rule out a couple of potential causes of recurrent miscarriage.

@sakuramiyagi @Trying93 these above are the tests I had - thanks for the reminder I had wiped it all from memory

@sakuramiyagi @cloud1220 thanks very much. I doubt I'll get referred for fertility tests but I can at least ask for those tests to be done 🤞
