Surgical management

Hi all, I am not really sure what I am after from this post but hoping for some experiences I guess. I found out this morning that I have had a MMC and have chosen surgical management, seems like the least worst option to me. I am struggling with this news on top of my dad passing away 10 days ago...his funeral is tomorrow. I am not really sure how to cope with it all.

Does anyone have any advice for after the surgery, was there any pain or anything? I am fine with a GA but I suppose worrying about afterwards more than anything. I feel as though my mental health is totally shot and I am not sure if I can cope with physical pain as well.

@MustStopSnacking28 are you still getting bleeding? If you dont mind me asking, have your tests turned negative? One week after surgery I've still got brown blood on wiping and tests are still a positive. Sorry to hear AF still hasn't shown

@TheDaydreamBelievers no bleeding now but it did take about 5 weeks which was a lot longer than I expected as the hospital had told me about 2 weeks. Yes tests are negative for me now but I didn’t take one until about a week ago so I am not sure how quickly it might have shown as negative. I have read online that if you were further along weeks-wise then it can take longer for the hCg levels to lower so hopefully it’s not a bad sign you are still getting negative tests. I would say if you are at all worried to contact your GP or EPU though xx

@MustStopSnacking28 they said about 2-3 weeks for both blood to stop and tests to go negative. Keen to TTC again soon so struggling a bit with the ongoing uncertainty

@TheDaydreamBelievers me too, that’s why I was hoping to get my first period by now. I totally understand how you feel but as it has only been one week it is still early days for you so I think it would be wise to wait at least another week and until you have stopped bleeding properly. It’s so hard though Flowers I am hoping 2021 will bring better days for us all. And hopefully beautiful babies as well!

I am so sorry for you loss at such a heartbreaking time as it is.

Please don’t tell worry about the aftermath of the surgery. I had surgical management and woke up to some period like cramps - I was given pain relief instantly in recovery. When back on the ward, the nurse asked me to let her know when I needed to go to the toilet so they could monitor my blood loss. I had some more period-like cramps after another hour, and was given morphine. They kept me in until they were happy with my BP, then sent me home. I had no pain at home, just bleeding for about two weeks.

Also had my first period 34 days after the surgery. I hope this helps x

Thank you @Nunu90 and sorry you had to go through the same thing Flowers

In case anyone finds this thread helpful, it is now 5 weeks and 6 days since the surgery and I have got some light bleeding today which I think will be my period. I feel very sad actually, even though I have been waiting for it to arrive, but hoping that 2021 will be a better year and that I might have a baby by the end of it!
