Weird miscarriage symptoms

Hi,

I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks in September. (I also had a miscarriage at 4 weeks in August, then got pregnant again almost straight away.)

I went to an EPU as I was bleeding and had cramps. They said did a scan and it was Pregnancy with Unknown Location. They said most likely it was a miscarriage and I'd already passed the embryo, but when they can't find anything in the uterus it can occasionally be an ectopic pregnancy.

They monitored my blood hormone levels, with 2 blood tests 48 hours apart, and they decreased so the pregnancy definitely ended.

On the first day of bleeding I had terrible pain in my jaw on one side, and around one ear - worse than the abdominal pain. I told them at the EPU but they didn't seem to have come across that before.

Sorry this next bit is gross

Throughout bleeding I got a bit obsessed with looking for the embryo in my blood and on my pads when I was bleeding, but just saw clots.

Then, after I had stopped bleeding (I think they day after I stopped), I went to the toilet and loads of clear discharge came out, like I always get a few days before ovulating (by this time it was about 12 days after the bleeding started), and in amongst the clear discharge was a blob I think might've been the embryo. It was about the size of my little finger and was attached to another, even smaller blob, which I think I was the beginnings of the placenta.

They said they don't know what caused my two miscarriages but could've just been bad luck. I spoke to my GP to see if I should go private rather than waiting for the 3 miscarriages you need for an NHS referral for recurrent miscarriages but after talking to her I decided to wait.

I've been thinking about it and now I'm wondering if the most recent miscarriage was ectopic.

I didn't have the usual ectopic symptoms like pain in my shoulder or on one side of abdomen. However, I've been researching it and occasionally ectopic pregnancies are not in the fallopian tubes, but somewhere else like the abdomen, top of uterus or cervix (so in the middle rather than one side).

The shoulder pain is apparently caused by something happening in the abdomen area but the pain travels up a nerve so it's experienced in the shoulder.

I'm wondering if my jaw pain was that phenomenon, but if it was an ectopic pregnancy in an unusual place, the pain reached my jaw instead of shoulder.

Plus, I think it's weird the embryo (if that's what it was) came out after all the bleeding stopped, if it was a normal pregnancy.
I wonder if it was somewhere else and came out when I next started ovulating because it wasn't in the uterus?

Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

Hi op, I’m coming here from the other thread as agreed.

I can’t shed any light on the symptoms themselves as I had a Mmc and ERPC surgical management, so I didn’t actually see anything. I wonder if Tommy’s helpline would be good people to ask these questions Flowers

As promised on the other thread I am here with a story of hope.

After my Mmc I did get pg again and this time I had a healthy pg. I had pcos and a few other health problems and started trying to get pg 11 years ago. As I’m writing this my two lovely kids are asleep next door and all the pain does feel worth it.

I hope that next year will bring you a healthy pregnancy op.

From what I’ve read of the stats it is overwhelmingly likely that you would not go on to have a third loss. This is why they don’t investigate mc on the nhs until a third loss, because third losses are so rare.

Thank you so much. This really helped and moved me to tears! @Onceuponatimethen
