Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Missed miscarriage query - what’s ahead?

Hi everyone. I found out on Monday, at 12 weeks, that our baby died six weeks ago. I’ve got to go back on Monday for the follow up scan and to discuss options.
Does anyone know if I choose medical management whether they insert the tablets there and then or whether you often need to return for this?
Do you think an operation would be offered to me with the baby being so small? Or would it be as I’ve been pregnant for so long and my body is just in absolute denial.
Just wondering what’s ahead.
Thank you

As well as medical management, I was offered surgery (under general anaesthetic) or MVA (under local). It was my choice. The only difference was that the wait was longer for the surgery because of theatre availability.

I imagine the only reason you wouldn't be offered all options is if there was a medical issue (previous bad reaction to general anaesthetic for example).

You don't have to make a decision at the doctor's appointment - you can ask to go and think about it and go back - that's what I did when I had my first MMC.

So sorry everyone for your losses.

I opted to have medication managed miscarriage at the start of August this year after having a missed miscarriage diagnosed days before my 12 week scan. I took home the first tablets the day I was told and then went back to hospital two days later for the pessary. After 24 hours of waiting and feeling unable to leave the house in case the horrendous bleeding the nurses described happened nothing has happened at all. I got myself in such a state about it and was told by EPAU that I would just have to wait 3 weeks to take a pregnancy test and if it was still positive that I could go on the waiting list for a D&C (which I wasn’t offered originally because of COVID and it apparently being an elective procedure)

I couldn’t handle the thought of waiting because my body obviously wasn’t willing to let go of the pregnancy sac so I went to the gynae ward for triage and they admitted me, I was given more tablets overnight every 3 hours but they still didn’t work. I ended up having the D&C under general anaesthetic late the next evening and I left the same night. If the same thing ever happened to me I would 100% opt for the D&C straight away, I definitely wasn’t prepared for how much waiting for miscarriage to happen would affect me mentally
