GP tests after miscarriage?

Hi All,

I have recently (3 weeks ago) had my 2nd miscarriage in 6 months. We are having a month or two off TTC again but I am starting to think about my (hopefully) next pregnancy and want to do everything I possibly can to make it work this time. I have read that there are tests that you can get through your GP that can show or rule out issues that could be addressed but my GP doesn't seem very clued up. Does anyone know what tests I should be asking for - testing for blood clotting, iron deficiency....anything else?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi there, so sorry this has happened to you. From what I understand the NHS will really only give you tests etc after 3 miscarriages. Hopefully that will not happen to you!

I'm no expert but hoping that this response will bump your post and someone else will be along to help.

Hi and I'm sorry for your losses.

I've also had two with an ectopic sandwiched in between.

Yes it's true the NHS won't do tests for multiple miscarriages until you've had three.

However if you can get a referral to a fertility unit they may do some extra tests. Getting a referral mainly depends on your age. If you're under 35 your GP will be unlikely to refer you until you've been trying for a year.

I'm 36 and got a fertility referral, they weren't supposed to do any of the multiple mc tests as I've only had two, but one of the awesome fertility nurses went rogue and put some through for me. Chrones disease and some other stuff I can't remember.

There are things your GP can test for you without a fertility referral. They can test your thyroid, day 21 progesterone, and quite a lot of other stuff.

Sadly I think a lot of this stuff is luck of the draw and depends on how sympathetic the professionals you encounter are. I asked for a female GP and I think it made a big difference. Turned out I have hypothyroidism.

Best of luck xxx
