Hope after third Miscarriage?

Hi

I've just joined here as I'm going through my third miscarriage, even though I have done a lot of reading on here going through my second mc.

I'm 22, husband and I have been ttc for our first baby for a year, had a chemical pregnancy the first time, second miscarriage at 6 weeks and the third miscarriage which I'm currently going through at 5 weeks. Finding it very hard physically and emotionally as I really thought this one would stick 😔

Please tell me your stories, anything you discovered which helped you stay pregnant or how you carried on after your miscarriage.
Really need some hope right now.

Hi OP, please don't worry - time is on your side. FWIW I had a healthy pregnancy in my 40s after recurrent miscarriages. I'd completely given up to be honest ...

Miscarriage is hard and IMO women are not given the support they need and are expected to just get on with it ... be kind to yourself now.

RainbowsAndRain · 25/07/2020 20:17

Thank you, trying to rest as much as possible and stay positive. Definitely agree about the lack of support, hoping for better days ahead 🥺

Glad to hear you got your son, was there anything you did differently when you were pregnant with him or you think helped you stay pregnant?

Hi OP, well done for looking after yourself and so sorry for your loss.
Progesterone cream and Angus Castus tablets helped me stay pregnant. I didn’t have a successful pgcy until 32. I too had all but given up by then

Hardbackwriter · 25/07/2020 21:49

I'm so sorry for your losses, it's a horrible, horrible place to be Flowers

I had three miscarriages - all between 5 and 8 weeks, so quite similar to yours (I was 29) and then my gorgeous DS, now two.

Have you spoken to your GP? They should refer you for some testing after a third miscarriage. It didn't find anything for me (and that's the case for most recurrent miscarriers) but it is worth doing in case there is something that can be identified and treated. The consultant I saw for that told me to take low-dose aspirin in future pregnancies and - perhaps entirely coincidentally - the first pregnancy in which I did that was successful.

Hi
Glad to hear you found something that worked for you, I've read quite a bit about progesterone and baby aspirin so when I talk to my doctor I'll bring it up and see whay she says. It's just so exhausting having to go through this again. Good to hear of your positive outcome, gives me hope and hopefully I get mine soon xx

@Hardbackwriter

Trying my best and taking each day as it comes. I have an appointment soon with my doctor and I was told after my second mc that after the third mc they refer for testing, so I'll see what happens, I've also read a lot about progesterone and baby aspirin so I'll ask her about it.

Sorry to hear about your losses also and glad to hear you got your baby, hoping I get my positive outcome soon too xx

Hope your holding up ok OP, completely sucks to go through all this. Good idea to ask consultant about the meds which have been suggested in this thread. You’ll get there, as people used to tell me, I didn’t believe it at the time. Take care x

RainbowsAndRain · 27/07/2020 18:01

@Daisylookslost taking each day as it comes, it's just hard waiting for someone to get back to me from epu so I can get a scan and some answers, will look into the meds and see what the doctor suggests, thank you xx

Sorry for your losses.

I am 31 weeks pregnant after 3 miscarriages. After my third I was referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic where blood tests showed I have APS. Without medication (currently aspirin and heparin) odds of a successful pregnancy were less than 20%.

Chase your referral and if one hasn’t been made to a clinic that specialises in recurrent miscarriage, insist on it. Your GP won’t run these tests, I don’t think they are allowed to because I suspected I had APS and my go said they could only be done under a dedicated referral. Good luck x

Vik81 · 27/07/2020 18:26

I'm in the same position going through third miscarriage and just been referred. Fingers crossed the issue can be identified and solved x good luck x

Elouera · 27/07/2020 18:37

Sorry for your losses OP. I had my 3rd MC in May. Sorry if TMI, but if you still have the products, your local EPU should offer to test for genetic issues- as its your 3rd MC. They should also refer you to the multiple MC clinic.

I'm much older, but bought a book called 'It starts with an egg'. I've only just started it, but it has lots of helpful advice about improving egg quality.

Unless you have blood tests which show a clotting issue, they are unlikely to start you on aspirin. Its usually only given after 12 weeks when there is a high risk of pre-eclampsia, and early on if there is a clotting problem. Have you had an ultrasound or HCG/hycosy to check the shape of your uterus? My friend has a bicornate uterus and MC her 1st pregnancy due to it.

Do you have negative or positive blood? If negative, have they ever given you Anti D? Hopefully you've been referred for further testing though. Flowers

yukka · 27/07/2020 19:50

I also had 3 and after testing discovered I had APS which causes miscarriage. 4th pregnancy - started aspirin and heparin with regular scans throughout, and now have a 1 year old sleeping upstairs. And I was 40 at birth so you have time, and lots and lots of hope.

Focus on getting through this physically and mentally, and it will happen xx

RainbowsAndRain · 27/07/2020 21:35

@Littlegoth I have a GP appointment soon so I will definitely ask her about getting referred to recurrent miscarriages, she did tell me when I went to her after my second mc that they refer after the third, hopefully I can get some answers.
Glad you found something that worked for you, hope your pregnancy goes smoothly x

RainbowsAndRain · 27/07/2020 21:46

@Elouera I've not had referrals to investigate what's causing my miscarriages so far, I have a GP appointment soon and she did say after the third mc they refer so I'll ask about that, hoping we get positive news soon xx

RainbowsAndRain · 27/07/2020 21:54

@yukka will ask my GP to get referred for testing, glad to hear you found something that worked for you. I've read a lot of positive stories which have helped, hoping for better days and that I get my baby soon xx

Hi everyone,
I've just had my 3rd miscarriage and somehow have been coping really well (not sure if it's the mediation or just my nervous system getting numb after going through this so many times). But I know the feeling and can only advise to give it time.

Looking forward, I've asked my GP to refer me to St.Mary's since I've read that they are the specialists. Yesterday I got a call from the Recurrent Miscarriage clinic at St.Mary's and was told that the earliest appointment will be in 3 to 6 months (this is due to Covid)

I wonder if there are any other clinics specialised in multiple miscarriages? Shall I wait for 6 months or shall I ask my GP to refer me elsewhere? What are my options?

RainbowsAndRain · 02/08/2020 15:58

I've also been referred to my local hospital and I feel like the waiting time will be around the same, I'm really not sure what to do, has anyone been prescribed anything like the baby aspirin from the GP after getting the BFP before having the mc investigated?
Also are there any tests the GP can get started whilst waiting to hear back from the hospital?

Vik81 · 02/08/2020 21:24

I found out a few interesting things. Rang GP and he referred me to gynaecology. I rang the hospital to cancel my scan and the nurse was great. She said I shouldn't be referred to gynaecology, and anyway it's closed during Covid. She said with the backlog I'd be lucky to get an appointment in six months. She then referred me to the reacurrent miscarriage unit. She said it could take between 3-6 months to get an appointment. If I got pregnant in the mean time to call and arrange an early 6 week scan. From what she said they would test my thyroid, blood, uterus. Possible treatments baby aspirin and hormones. 6 months is a life time to wait (I'm 38) so I am just going to keep trying, as soul destroying physically and mentally that is. Did you get anywhere with your gp?

annainsearch · 04/08/2020 09:11

@Vik81I feel your frustration. I'm 32 but have very little patience to sit and wait. I've previously done karyotype test and have now scheduled a few calls with doctors in private hospitals in Ukraine (I speak Russian). Even if they won't be able to prescribe anything I will at least hear how good/bad my situation is and what are the possible options. I just can't sit and wait for 6 months just to get to talk to someone

In the meantime I might also give it another try although I have very little hope anything would be different

Vik81 · 04/08/2020 09:59

@annainsearch completely understand why you wouldn't wait! Is this your first baby? Really hope you can get your rainbow baby soon.

annainsearch · 04/08/2020 10:53

@Vik81 yes, it's my first one :(

greytminds · 04/08/2020 11:10

I had three miscarriages - at 5 weeks, 10 weeks and 11 weeks. The first two pregnancies were IVF because I couldn’t get pregnant either. It was a nightmare that lasted several years. After three mcs I was referred to our local recurrent miscarriage unit and found to have borderline anticardiolipin antibodies (sticky blood) and was told to take aspirin, clexane and was given progesterone too although there wasn’t any indication that my levels were low. I finally had my daughter in 2018.

Taking aspirin was a game changer for me - I went from not being able to get pregnant to getting pregnant easily (at 37 and again at 40). I would recommend doing your own research and then considering taking it if you feel it is right. It is easily bought in 75g doses over the counter for a few pence.

Our local recurrent miscarriage unit is currently not operating. I found myself (very surprisingly) pregnant recently and was lucky enough to have the mobile number of the research nurse and was able to beg the same drugs with no appointment or follow up. If this had been the situation two years ago, my daughter wouldn’t be here and it breaks my heart that some people might not get access. Our local EPU is also only emergencies and doing no reassurance scanning, so I’ve effectively had to manage my own care and book private scans. To some extent, ttc in this pandemic will mean a greater level of self management of care and self education in terms of your needs. It’s tough times.
