Miscarriage Bicornuate Uterus

Hi

I had a missed miscarriage on 20 sept opted for D & C and am devastated. We have been TTC for 4 years and are on IVF waiting list when got pregnant naturally, I have severe endometriosis and have had 3 operations to remove this and adhesions. Upon my first scan they discovered I had a bicornuate uterus which they had never noticed before, midwife says this increased my risk of miscarriage. Feel so disappointed in myself and feel let down by my body.

Desperatly want to get pregnant soon as don't think its fair my Fiance sould have to go through IVF if we can avoid it.

Does anyone have any info on bicornuate uterus or any experiences, I would love to hear them.

This is the first time I have posted but have read through previous conversations and they have helped me a lot.

Trying to be forever hopefull..

Di

Hi Dyzzidi, sorry to hear about all you have been through.
I too have a bicoruate uterus which was discovered during an early scan with my Dd1 as i was bleeding. They discovered the bicornuate uterus and that i had miscarried a twin.

I had never heard of it before and was quite worried as they scared me half to death with tales of me going into premature labour because the shape of my womb meant less room for baby.

I was fine though and had Dd1 by elective section (she was breech as not enough room to turn around)
at 38 weeks.

Apparently one side of my uterus is bigger than the other and my doc said that basically if the egg implanted on the smaller side then the bigger the risk of miscarriage. They also said it can be harder to get pregnant but Dd1 was concieved in 1 mth and i have also had 2 more children since then.
I did have dd2 early but that was due to her being in distress and the cord being around her neck as she had managed to turn from breech to normal.
With Ds i had no probs regarding the uterus at all, although again he was breech.

Any more questions I can answer for you ?? Please feel free to ask. I have never spoken to anyone else with this before.

nutty xxxxxxx

Thanks for your info the told me at the first scan that my Baby was on the left and the right side of my uterus had deveolped a sac with no baby in because the pregnancy had excited it and any bleeding would come from the empty sac.

I did bleed but only very lightly and as I have said had a missed miscarriage so was really confused. I don't think they knew what had happened. I am waiting to see my consultant as with my previous problems i am always referred to the head man so i hope he can give me a few answers.

All the pregnancy books I have bought hardly say anything and the internet is not much help either!!!

Did you bleed during pregnancy? sorry am just so curious.

I did bleed with dd1 up until about 14 weeks i think and i assume that was from the miscarried twin.

I struggled to find out info too and even caught a junior doc looking it up when i was at antenatal clinc.

Don't apologise for asking any questions I wish i'd had someone to ask when i found out.

Hi Di, you have my sympathy, I have had 2 miscarriages, time does heal, I promise.

Have you read a book by Leslie Regan called "Miscarriage, what every woman needs to know"? I did have copy kindly sent to me by another person on Mumsnet but I have since passed it on. The book gives lots of information about different causes of miscarriage and includes a discussion of physical problems such a bicornuate uterus. It might be worth a read if you can get it.

Thanks for your info Bunny I will order that book today. Went to Waterstones bookstore in central manchester last week and they had nothing on miscarriage I had too look through all the baby books and then ask for help the girl was trying to be helpfull but i found it distressing. Will order it from Amazon it is much easier.

Thanks for your help
