Methotrexate and hcg tripled

I was diagnosed with an ectopic in my left tube by vaginal ultrasound on Friday. I was about 4w 3d and they could see a ring in my fallopian tube, a blood clot near my ovary and some free fluid. I wanted to try expectant management but was advised against it so had methotrexate to end the pregnancy. I have had my day 4 blood results and the level of hcg has tripled. I am going for more bloods and another scan this Friday. I'm freaking out that I have been misdiagnosed, what they saw is not an ectopic and there was nothing in the womb because it was too early. Is there anyone here who has had a large rise in hcg on day 4 after methotrexate? Can you let me know what happens to you? I'm very worried. TIA

I'm so sorry I can't be much help and that you're going through this. Are you okay?

My first ectopic by hcg rose significantly by day 4 post MTX injection - I ruptured the following evening but my numbers were already over 5000 by that point

It is normally for the levels to rise until day 4 and then you should start to see it fall in the next few days if it's working

Thank you both for your posts. Just an update for anyone searching on this in future. The levels did drop by Day 7 but were still double what they were at the starting point. Scan showed slight increase in size and free fluid. As I was in no pain I was offered a second round of MTX or surgery. They could offer no guidance on the probability of a second round of MTX working and I would still remain at risk of rupture whilst having the treatment. I decided it would be better in my circumstances to have the operation so I had it done at the weekend. I'm very sad but so relieved that the risk of it rupturing is gone and no more hospital appointments.
