Rising hCG after diagnosed miscarriage

Hello all, I'm a new to the community.

On Sat 2nd May, we found out we were 5 weeks pregnant with hCG 140ng/ml. It was our first pregnancy after 3 years of marriage and one failed IVF last year. I am 38 yo this year with semi blocked tubes so we never expected this would happen to us.

Pregnancy symptoms were enlarged tender boobs, acne, occasional mild backache.

Anyway was started on Endometrin progesterone suppositories as my levels were low. Started having spotting of light brown discharge the day I first applied the meds vaginally. Spotting of light discharge ranging from light brown to pink to bright red to dark reddish brown all the way since until today.

Last Sat 16th May, I was supposed to be 6 weeks 5 days. Ultrasound revealed nothing in my uterus. Nothing in tubes or ovaries either. Doctor diagnosed me as miscarriage had already passed. hCG was 240ng/ml. Was told to stop Endometrin and wait for heavy bleeding to come. No cramps, no pain, no clots, no heavy bleeding. Boobs were still achy but no nausea, feelings of loss pregnancy symptoms.

Went for blood test on Monday 18th May. hCG is now 300ng/ml.

We are thinking of going to another doctor to get a second opinion. We want to find the embryo because I'm so afraid it is an ectopic pregnancy and I don't want my tubes to rupture or be removed. Still no pain, no cramps, still spotting of light discharge (similar to your last day of period). Yesterday only drops of dark brown discharge. Red when wiping. Period is nowhere in sight.

Anyone else has gone through this? Would love to hear some experiences and shed some light to my situation.

Can you keep going for blood tests? Very low and slow rising HCG is a sign that it may be ectopic, but they typically won't be able to see anything on an ultrasound until your HCG level reaches about 1500. I was in a similar situation last month and I just kept getting blood tests every few days. If my HCG had reached 1500 I'd have scheduled an ultrasound, but after a while my HCG started going down again by itself and eventually I started bleeding. I will never know whether it was a non-viable intrauterine pregnancy or an ectopic that resolved itself naturally.

Sorry you're going through this.

Thank you for sharing. We went to another doctor today and she basically said the same thing you did. We also did a transvaginal ultrasound and saw a swelling in one of my tubes, so that must be where the embryo is. Uterus and ovaries are clear and fine. Going for another blood test tomorrow. Hoping to clear this with just methotrexate meds. Don't want to wait for it to clear naturally because the risk of rupturing my tube is just far greater than the risk of future complications.

That's really unfortunate, but if they can see a swelling in one of your tubes and your HCG is rising slowly like that then I wouldn't risk it. Take the methotrexate and give yourself the summer off eating unpasteurised cheese and drinking wine. Flowers
