Any point getting RMC testing done at 40?

I have just had my third miscarriage at just over five weeks. Previous miscarriages were 5.5 (spontaneous) and between 7 and 8 weeks (MMC identified at a scan at 8 weeks). I have just turned 40 and two were just before my birthday. All have been in the last six months.

Is there any point pursuing testing? I could get this done privately so time is less the issue, I just don't know if there is any point if it's just going to be down to my age. I have a daughter 2.5, who was conceived after two years trying. Now suddenly I keep getting pregnant but can't seem to keep them. I used progesterone and aspirin in this most recent pregnancy but I think it just delayed the inevitable. Do I just keep trying for the golden egg and try to harden myself against future loss?

If youve managed to have a child naturally it will be age.

I had the same issue and had recurrent miscarriage testing. The consultant was wonderful and actually quite hopeful (I was 39 at the time). I’d conceived my first child at 37 with no problems whatsoever. Then breast fed for a year and my periods were just messed up massively. Managed to get pregnant - early loss, get pregnant - never implanted properly so numbers peaked at under a 1000 and eventually I bled out then got pregnant again and we honestly thought we’d cracked it. Everything perfect, early scan perfect, 12 week scan - no heart beat. My world just crumbled 😔

They sent the embryo off for testing at that point as it was part of my RMC testing and the baby had Down’s syndrome. Obviously very severely as it hadn’t survived for long. As I said the consultant was very hopeful. She said if I could get pregnant the chances were good and she was right! A few months later I conceived my second child who is absolutely perfect!

(I did then conceive again at 42 and sadly that baby also had a chromosome issue and we have to TFMR in the second trimester. Very sad but I did get my rainbow 🌈).

Hi @justanotherneighinparadise thank you for commenting. Do you mind me asking how many miscarriages you had?

Three.

Thank you for answering. I sort of need the 'i persevered and it worked out' stories to give me a bit of hope. It's difficult to imagine deliberately setting myself up for more heartache but I don't feel ready to give up. I'm so glad it worked out for you but sorry to hear you still had a later loss

Acupuncture definitely helped lengthen my cycles, so I’d always recommend that to people. I know at the moment that might not be easily accessible post lockdown 🤦🏻‍♀️ Otherwise I’d recommend trying to keep calm and positive and keep trying. There’s a good egg there somewhere! Xx

I've had accupuncture for years (not now with lockdown of course) and my cycles while on the shorter side are like clockwork, I think sadly, I'm just old
