Success stories - after late miscarriage

Hi All,

Last week our baby was born just short of 21 weeks gestation. We thought all was going well then we discovered at our 20 week scan that our baby had a lot of fluid and swelling on their tummy and his heart has stopped a couple of days earlier.

We are utterly broken. But now the news has sunk in, I've got this overwhelming need to try again.

We requested a full post mortem and expect the results within 8 weeks. Of course, we wouldn't try until then in case there was an underlying problem or high chance it would happen again. At this stage, they believe the baby caught an infection in the womb.

Has this happened to anyone then gone on to have a successful pregnancy? (Our first born was full term and healthy).

Not quite the same but I had a mc at 14 weeks, but baby's heart stopped at 12. I had a successful pregnancy straight after. I'm so so deeply sorry for your loss. I, like you, was just super keen to be pregnant straight away after, and in hindsight I maybe should have held off and dealt with grieving first, as I did find the beginning of the next pregnancy quite fraught with worth, but then again I think it was also a healing experience and possibly helped me move on (not forget) from it. One thing I will say is it's really important to look after yourself, as I was really physically depleted. Take time for yourself, eat well, get out for walks, take baths and generally treat yourself like you would look after a friend in the same situation. Big hugs x

I had a miscarriage at 22 weeks due to a heart defect. 3 cycles later I'm now 7 weeks pregnant. We got genetic results back after 8 weeks and the defect wasn't genetic. I'm terrified now but trying to remain positive and I'll be well looked after this time x

I'm so sorry both to hear about your losses.

As you suffered "late miscarriages", were/are you more closely monitored in your next pregnancy?

I'm really worried as it is still classed as a miscarriage, rather than a still birth that they will just leave me to it. I was low risk so it's totally out of the blue.

I'm utterly heartbroken. I'm by no means trying to replace my boy but I can't put into words how desperate I am to try again. Maybe 8 weeks is too soon.
