Experience of Manual Vacuum Aspiration

I just wanted to share my experience of MVA as I was told difference stories. I had mine yesterday.

I had pessaries. In the back passage and through the vagina which were tucked behind the cervix. Then, I had paracetamol and ibrofen. I waited an hour for these to kick in before having the procedure.

I went into a different room and sat in the chair with my legs up on the foot bars. I had a scan and then the consultant started. She basically started off like a smear test. When opened with the tool which opens you down there, she then applies anaesthetic gel - NO NEEDLE! I was told I would have one but didn’t! I also had gas and air for a few minutes but I didn’t find this effective as I could feel what she was doing. It was just like period pain. It wasn’t unbearable at all. She then scanned again. She then used a suction tool and I didn’t feel a thing and was chatting away as normal. The consultant then scanned again, took the opening tool out and I was done.

It literally took around 20 minutes.

I was so frightened and built up a fear of having a needle inserted into my vagina I panicked myself. I literally had nothing to worry about at all.

I had bleeding when I left and today, there’s coloured discharge when I wipe.

Everyone’s experiences are different but I would recommend this procedure.

Hi evening,
I was just wondering is anyone has had a MVA before I’m having it done tomorrow as I’ve had MCA but my body isn’t responding and so nervous as I’m petrified of needles and been told I’m having it injected into the cervix for local anestectix I’m praying it goes well but so nervous and worries as I’ve had a surgery done down there before not related to pregnancy and they didn’t numb me correctly!
