Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic

Hi all,

I'm back again but just to share my experience with the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I can't find my original post unfortunately.

Here's a little bit about me.

I had my first miscarriage back in march 2018, another in April 2018 and both were chemicals, and another in February 2019 which was a missed miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat at six weeks. Around May 2019, I had my fourth miscarriage which was also a chemical. After my third, I got a referral to see the recurrent miscarriage clinic.

I received my letters and first appointment was in July 2019 to see the nurse where we talked over my history, family medical history. She advised I cannot get pregnant during this time. Went in for bloods and then had another appointment in August for an ultrasound to check the shape of my uterus and my ovaries.

Finally, had my appointment with the consultant today to discuss the findings. All okay, sonographer suspected pcos but consultant ruled this out and said we didn't need to test for it as I got pregnant fairly easily, cycle is pretty regular and I do not have facial hair those kind of symptoms. We asked if hubs needed to have his sperm checked but they said he won't need it. Because I have a heart shaped uterus, I had asked whether we can ensure that heart shaped wasn't an interference in any way so she's booking me in for a 3D scan which is two to three months time (no confirmed appointment as of yet).

The consultant prescribed me progesterone and steroids (steroids as she advised that some womens body would reject the baby as they see the baby as a foreign object and would attack them, so this would help). And higher dosage of folic acid.

I had asked what if it happens again and where do we go from there and the consultant was saying positive vibes only and you're under our care now. We will see what happens from here. I would need to start the Steroids and progesterone once I find out I am pregnant and to give them a call. Time to try again!

I hope everyone is well.

Hi Op
Thanks very much for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear you are going through recurrent miscarriage but glad you have a treatment plan going forwards. I have also been prescribed steroids for my next frozen embryo transfer in Jan for the same reasons (already on progesterone as ivf).
Take care.

why don't they think it is needed to check the sperm of ur hub? I'm sorry but I just had my 2nd MMC, n they did checked on my hub's sperm, and the result is not good and they said it could be the reason of my recurrent miscarriages.

Hi @GreyGoose1980

I hope your transfer went well and Covid has no way affected your treatment. Please let us know of any updates and sorry for the late reply!

Hi @shv13

When I asked, they simply added that it would be a waste of my own money to get something like that checked even though I have read a number of studies to say that sperm have been identified as a factor causing recurrent miscarriages. I hope you had a good solution since?

I just wanted to update you guys on my experience.. I had my rainbow baby girl today. After they have me the green light near the end of November, we TTC'd in December and conceived . Maintained the pregnancy using steroids, progesterone, aspirin and higher dosage of folic acid along with a normal dose of folic acid in my pregnancy multivitamins.
