miscarriage following amnio

Anybody got a link to a site that can give reassurance to parents who have lost a baby following complication of amnio? Amnio was performed because of increased Down's risk. Result came back normal but infection set in and caused miscarriage. Parents are distraught.

dophus i can very well understand why someone would want to, i've had 2. when you're faced with a life threatening condition like edwards syndrome - which i had a 1/30 risk of having - and a 1/200 risk of miscarriage, then you weigh up the risks yourself. also many of the v experienced staff who do amnios, like my consultant, have a "clean sheet" when it comes to amnios but they don't exactly advertise this because they don't want to give women the impression that the procedure is "risk free"

I think I sounded more dogmatic than I meant to. Of course there are times when an amnio is necessary.

My concern is when it is offered for DS when you are more likely to lose the baby through the procedure rather than find out that the baby has DS.

there is a risk, obviously, and this is explained when you receive counselling re: amnio. but for some women this is their preferred option, because they either don't wish to continue with a DS pg, or simply would like to know before the baby is born that it has DS, and think it's worth the (small) risk of having a miscarriage

And it's just not that simple dophus. The soft markers for Downs often co-incide with soft-markers for far more complex / challenging / non-viable conditions. That's the situation we were in. It's not necessarily primarily about testing for Downs even when DS is first on the list of 'risks'.

But i don't think this thread is the place for test or not debate
