Does anyone know why I have to wait for blood tests?

I had an ERPC two weeks ago today. This was my third loss and they are doing some tests for me.

It's a whole 6 weeks until the blood tests. Does anyone know the reason I have to wait? I'm only asking encase it's HCG because even after a week I was having negative pregnancy tests. ( they really did their job)
After my first 2 natural losses it took weeks and weeks for it to go to zero.

It's just such a long wait. And actually I wasn't even told what the tests are for. Or how long the genetics test will take.

Hi,

I had the same - I was told that before they could investigate why I was having recurrent miscarriages they had to wait at least 6 weeks after for all pregnancy related hormones etc has gone to normal - it was a pain but it makes sense, they need to test on the same background that you got pregnant on in the first place

One of the test results takes 6 weeks to come back as well which is even more annoying

Good luck with everything - I'm sorry for your losses x

Hi @Shelbustotherescue thanks for your reply. I did think it was that, but anxious to be seen to find out. Sorry for your losses too. It's never easy no matter what the circumstances. Sorry you have been in the same position. I hope you got some sort of advice or guidance?

Did you have to wait 6 weeks for all the results? Everything seems longer waiting for these types of results.

Thanks x

@futuredreams thank you, it's hard but getting stronger every day

No, some of the results came back quicker and I only know this because I fell pregnant again and had to ring them to let them know and they said they had them all bar one back, I then received a letter to say that they were all back.

I know you said about genetics, they don't offer this as standard in the area of nhs I am - they only do this after multiple miscarriages when what you lose you are able to provide for testing.

They just do a variety of blood tests which they said to me were "things they could help resolve" like thyroid issues, coagulation issues.

I lost my last baby beginning of June, and found out I was pregnant again by 27 August so I have everything crossed for you that when you're ready to try again, you'll get a sticky one too !

It takes that long for your clotting factors and inflammatory markers to go back to normal after a pregnancy, even in the absence of hcg and the main things they are looking at are if you have any reasons that you would clot too much. If you test before 6 weeks you are likely to get a false positive result and then end up on medication or a treatment pathway that could potentially do more harm than good.

Thanks @Shelbustotherescue that's great news for you. I'm half hoping for the same result as you but also hoping that if I wait it will save another heartache and scaring for my body to recover from.

Wishing you all the luck.

Thanks for responding to my questions. It's been really helpful Smilex
