Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Returning to 'normal' after a miscarriage

I had a d&c at the start of 14 weeks after an ultrasound found no heartbeat and the baby seemed to have stopped developing about 12.5 weeks. This was 2 weeks ago and I still look pregnant, not as pregnant as I was and I lost 12lbs in 6 days so something definitely changed, but my lower abdomen is still distended and tight feeling. Is this normal? I worry it could be a sign that they didn't get everything but maybe it just takes a while to contract back down? I'm also occasionally still spotting but the health call line seemed to think that wasn't too worrisome. Any one have experience with this they can share?

I'm sorry for your loss. I had D&c follow by blood transfusion on February this year. I felt destroyed my body and mind, I was 18 weeks pregnant. After 4 weeks I thought I was better and back to work, I was wrong, two weeks later I have to asked for another week off. It took me ages to start to feel better. Takes things easy. All the best

Thank you Ad55! It just feels so confusing, in some ways I look ok and the medical pages suggest you can get back to normal in a couple of days and I still can't get into clothes from a few months back and feel like I'm made of glass. I'm so sorry for your loss too. Thank you for sharing your story, it helps me understand this will be awhile and that's ok.

Personally I think you have to go for what the body is telling you. I had another miscarriage 4 weeks ago. I can get a bit frustrated with myself, I want to loose this weight and my belly but I know I have to do a deep breath and remember to be kind with myself.

Thanks Ad55, remembering to be kind to ourselves can be a battle. I'm so sorry for your loss, sharing those deep breaths and wishing you well.
