Do I need to go to A&E?

I have been miscarrying since Saturday and thought I was over the worst judging by yesterday and then nothing really happening today.

At about 3pm pain and constant heavy bleeding (clots) started. I was lying down or on the toilet. About an hour or so ago on the toilet, I felt incredibly faint, dizzy, clammy and nauseous. My husband told me I looked awful.

I have eaten and drunk fluids and heavy bleeding seems to have curtailed. I do feel rough and have a headache but no longer have the earlier symptoms.

The advice online is to go to A &E but this is difficult with kids at home and don’t think driving myself is a good idea. Do I need to go? I’ve not been in this situation before and not sure what to do.

Hi OP, ring 111 and they will guide you to the best care for you under these circumstances. I am so sorry for your loss. Thanks

Have you seen anyone about your miscarriage? I had the number of the gyn ward and they said if you feel dizzy then you need to be seen but if not and you can manage the bleeding at home then it’s best to stay at home.

You need a blood test ASAP to check your haemoglobin levels. If you've been bleeding a lot they may be low and that would cause dizziness and weakness.

It depends in what facilities you have in your area so 111 would be a good shout, but there's no point messing around with an OOH GP that doesn't do bloods if you know they don't.

Am emergency gynae-acute surg nurse, this is what we would say if you rang us for help

If you're soaking through pads too and have a lot of clots, you need to get seen

Do you have a contact number for the local gynae assessment unit/early pregnancy unit? Usually they have an experienced nurse/midwife on the phone who can advise where/when you need to be seen and you can bypass a busy A&E

Thank you everyone for quick replies

I was at an EPU yesterday but they didn’t give me any info and they shut at 5

I wasn’t expecting to feel this bad.

If you're in the NW I can tell you the contact details of somewhere you can go 24/7 and just self present
