Taking private test results to NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic

So... long story short. 3 miscarriages all at 6 weeks GP referred me to NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic but wait is 12 weeks. We decided to go and see a private consultant and get some tests done that way instead of having to wait. The consultant diagnosed mild PCOS and luteal phase defect there and then (via ultrasound and cycle history) and has requested a whole host of blood and other tests for me and DH.

I have received her report and it says at the end ‘will require ovulation induction, mid-cycle follicle tracking and progesterone supplementation. She has asked us to abstain from trying for 2 months and asked us to both give up the booze and me to lose weight (1-2 stone by mid jan!!!)

My guess from her report is she is going to suggest Clomid, Cyclogest and regular ultrasounds. Obviously going to be far too expensive to do all that privately so my question is :

Has anyone ever taken private results to the NHS clinic and have them use those results to start treatment there and then or will they want to do all the tests themselves before prescribing??

Thanks!

I've done this, luckily our private consultant was head of reoccurring miscarriage clinic and I was started straight on progesterone after first appointment when I rang with a bfp, sadly I've just lost the pregnancy as it was ectopic however but I was already booked for a hysteroscopy and other tests before we got our bfp which they didn't change just in case it all happened again.

It has meant we have saved time on some appointments, esp after having 8 losses in 16 months as we sought private help 8 months in due to being under 12 months ttc

Sorry I meant to also say I was diagnosed pcos privately and had all my bloods done privately.

The only thing the reoccurring miscarriage clinic want to do before starting clomid is thyroid, clotting and hysteroscopy

Hey Holly5633-
im sorry to hear it ended as an ectopic - I’m about to start this cycle, have you since tried this cycle again and what was your results ? I’d be interested ! X

Tashyb123 · 10/08/2022 19:09

I meant sorry ‘feelingprettyalonetoday’ - about your ectopic!
Did you end up doing the ovulation induction again ? Xx

Does anyone know if you have to have had at least 3 miscarriages to have private testing ?

Tashyb123 · 10/08/2022 20:07

Hey! No you don’t - I’ve had two losses and I got myself booked in private straight away! A really good clinic if you’re in the UK is ‘TFP simply fertility’ I’m using them, or ‘Bourn Hall’

Thanks @Tashyb123 . I've had one but was ttc for 8 months which I know is classed as 'normal' but felt like a long time! Not sure whether it's worth trying to get tested or if they'll tell me to just try again, the thought of going through the heartbreak of another mc though is so painful which I know may not happen but i can't help but feel pessimistic . & thank you for the recommendations I'm up north so I'm wondering if a private ivf clinic round here would do these tests.

So sorry to hear about your losses, have you been tested? What were the results x

Odd question but did you get pregnant each time naturally? I was in the same situation as you, multiple miscarriages and was referred to the miscarriage clinic, I was also diagnosed with PCOS. I never got an appointment in the end because I fell pregnant again but was put on cyclogest and I'm currently 13 weeks. All my previous miscarriages have been at 6/7 weeks also.

I'd assume if you've fallen pregnant naturally, then why would you need clomid? If you're in the same position as me then surely you'd only need cyclogest? Sorry I've got this wrong!

I'd assume you'd be able to take your results to the nhs but I would imagine they'd want to do their own tests, I know a lot of times the nhs don't recognise private results/diagnosis. (This was the case with me anyway) they wouldn't accept my PCOS diagnosis, which was private until they had done their own investigations.

Hello gonewiththewind -

oh interesting -
so I have a low AMH of 9, so my egg count is lower and this means my eggs may be immature for my age, hence the ovulation induction, so they can monitor my eggs and make sure they’re maturing etc, I will also be provided with progesterone pessaries and asprin ! Xx

Ahh I see. That makes sense.
It's a tough one, I really hope they help you and you get your rainbow soon 🌈

NHS can certainly use the results, BUT, big but, aren't obliged to follow the treatment plan a specialist has recommended privately.

The NHS may be tied to following a particular protocol or using particular drugs.
