Pregnancy soon after a late miscarriage

Hi all,

Has anyone out there fallen pregnant very soon after a late miscarriage?

It's only been just over 2 weeks since I was informed my baby's heartbeat could not be detected - discovered at 16 weeks (I also miscarried in May at 5-6weeks).

After a medically managed miscarriage I bled for almost 2 weeks with the bleeding stopping on Thursday. Today I have the first indication that my period is about to start (surprised at how quickly it appears to be returning). While I'm terrified about going through this again and need time to heal emotionally, I also have the old biological clock ticking loudly and that scares me in equal measure.

Did anyone fall quickly after a late miscarriage and how did it go?

I miscarried in late November (third time) and conceived in January. DS was 17 two weeks ago! I didn't even have a period in between.

I got pregnant again 7 weeks after a loss at 23 weeks.

It was the most terrifying time of my life BUT I'm glad I did it. I don't think there's ever a 'right' time.

My ds is almost 6 months now.

So sorry for your loss Thanks
I hope all goes well for you.

Thank you ladies for sharing. How wonderful that you ended up with your wonderful children after your devasting loses.

Sunnychickychucky, may I ask if you made the decision to try again without knowing why you lost your baby at 23 weeks? And what care did you receive when you fell pregnant again?

I don't want to live with regret so I know I will have to give it another shot at some point but I am sad at the prospect of having another pregancy and not being able to enjoy it be uase of my anxiety.

Even when I fell so soon after the miscarriage (and one of my earlier ones was at 22 weeks) it was scary at first. I was scanned weeklý. My consultant said we may not be able to stop you miscarrying again but we may get an idea of what is happening - so I was scanned eaxh Wednesday. For half the week I was on cloud 9 as the scan revealed all ok and then the next half worried about the next scan. Once I got past 24 weeks they no longer needed to scan as said all was ok. DS tried to arrive at 33 week but they stopped labour. He was then induced at 37 weeks.

I think if you want a child you will just have to go for it and hopefully all will be well. I know of a poor thing who had 12 miscarriages but then 3 children all in their teens now. So don't ever give up hope. I wish you all the best x

It took 3 months for my cycle to normalise after medically managed miscarriage. I conceived the first month it was back to normal though. Tbh I probably should have waited a bit longer because I wasn’t really mentally recovered and I think it contributed to my prenatal depression and anxiety

@cwalsh2002 I lost twins. They were born alive, i just went into spontaneous labour.
I don't think I consciously made a decision to try again, I just didn't prevent it from happening iyswim.

I had cervical scans in the pregnancy that followed. Lots of consultant appointments and then growth scans every 3 weeks (which were for reassurance really).

I think you'll always be anxious, no matter when it happens. You just have to hold your breath and close your eyes really, it's horrible .
Take all the support you can Smile

@ShalomJackie thanks for the words of encouragement. I understand how half the week must of been elation and the other half sheer terror. I understand more that ever why pregnancy and birth is referred to a the miracle of life.

It's really good to hear stories of positive outcomes after late miscarriages as it can feel like such an isolating and lonely place when you are going through it yourself.

@ArfArfBarf I'm so sorry to hear about what you have /are going through. It's so difficult after a misscarriage when you do want to try again and are worried about missing any opportunity, but at the same time needing that healing time. If only we had crystal balls to tell us what the future holds and when the right time is.

@Sunnychickychucky, I'm sorry sorry. I can't imagine how awful that must have been for you.

I think you're probably right though. I might just need to take another leap of faith and pray it will be different next time.

I am seeing my friend's mum on Friday. She has over 30 years midwifery experience so hopefully she'll be able to further advise / reassure me.
