Is this normal after a miscarriage?

Hi, for the last couple of weeks I've had light spotting and cramping (don't normally bleed at all due to the contraception I'm on) then on Sunday I stood up from the sofa and all of a sudden had a huge gush blood (straight through my clothes etc) and the cramps were that bad it felt like I was in labour. I went to the Dr's who said while it was rare on the contraception I'm on pregnancy can happen and to her it definitely seemed like a miscarriage. She's booked me in for a scan next week to check everything. However she said the cramps would ease off, and while they're no longer as constant as they was, when I do get them they're still incredibly painful. I have quiet a high pain threshold normally. But these are bad enough to make my eyes water. And instead of bleeding normally like a period, I seem to go hours with losing barely anything followed either by a sudden big gush again or a big clot. Has anyone else experienced this? And how long did the cramps and bleeding last for you? Sorry for all the questions. My heads all over the place right now. I obviously didn't know I was pregnant again, and wasn't trying but it's still messed with my head incredibly and the pains and strange bleeding are just adding more stress. Thank you

Sorry this has happened to you, it must have been such a shock Thanks

I am not an expert at all but it sounds like the tissue has not yet all passed? I had a miscarriage which started like you describe but I then had the rest of the tissue removed in hospital 10 days ago now. My bleeding has only just stopped in the last day or so and I had cramps for a week, but if it's really painful still your body might be trying to expel the rest of the tissue. It's good you are having a scan to confirm, and in the meantime take care of yourself and go to your hospital's EPU if you need to be seen sooner than your scan.
