Hey guys,

I've been referred to the RM clinic at UCLH. Just wondering if anyone has been. If so how did you find it, what did they do, how long was the wait etc...
New to all this.
Xx

Hi Mabel. I've also been referred to the clinic at uclh. My appt is at the beginning of August, which is 2.5 months after my gp made the referral - however I was originally booked into the wrong clinic and it took weeks to sort it all out. I think usually it would be more like a 6 week wait from referral to first appt.

Sorry I can't offer any real insight into testing etc. Hopefully someone who has been seen recently will stop by!

Xx

Thanks so much for your reply! How annoying that it got mixed up. I've heard good things about UCLH so here's hoping the mix up is the only difficulty you have. Would be great to find out how your initial appointment goes? Wishing you all the best with it.xx

Yes I'll keep you posted on how it goes, and hope you don't have to wait too long. Have you taken a pause on trying? When I asked someone at the clinic they said if you become pregnant before your 1st appt it limits what you can be tested for. So worth keeping in mind.... I'm taking a break and very much enjoying being able to drink some beer in this sunny weather! Xx

Interesting, I did think about that. At the moment we aren't trying but that's because I'm still waiting to get my period after my surgery and we had decided to definitely wait for that before trying again to give my body a rest. But then I was thinking of starting to try again next month. It did cross my mind about it limiting the assessment. It's such a hard one isn't it. Im desperate to get pregnant again but then I really don't want to go through this again knowing I could possibly have prevented it.
And yes, I've definitely been enjoying a glass of wine in the sunshine!
I'm also due to have my first acupuncture consultation next week. Who knows if it will make a difference but I just want to be doing something to help myself. Even if it's just a placebo...

Just checking in to say I had my appointment this week and it went really well. The consultant we saw was very supportive, and spent about 45 minutes with us explaining the process and answering questions. We had the blood tests on the day for karyotyping plus full screening for blood clotting etc. for me. I am booked in for an ultrasound next week, and then we return in 6 weeks time for the results and treatment plan. If nothing is found I think this is progesterone and aspirin, and heparin is prescribed if any blood clotting issues are identified. I presume if anything genetic crops up then we'll be referred onto a specialist working in that field.

Hope that's helpful and wishing you all the best for your appointment.

Hi burgerlady,

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you had a really good appt. I ended up being referred to St George's (local hospital) because UCLH didn't have any appointments. I wish I could say it was a similar experience but it was awful. The woman (a member of consultants team) rushed me through, didn't answer any of my questions and just said it was unlikely there would be a reason found and I should prepare to not have an answer. She told me I would probably feel more anxious as it will mean I have a 'problem' that they can't solve. I was in tears by the end. Not re-assured in anyway. I have a follow up in October (8 weeks after appointment) and then I'll actually see the consultant not a member of his team so hopefully I'll get more sense out of him. Also St George's don't do the Katyotypibg so my parent and I weren't tested for that.
