Retained tissue

This is my 3rd post here (sorry)!

Medical management 2 weeks ago (6 weeks 1 day)

Had an internal scan yesterday which showed the baby had gone, but there was a small piece of retained tissue, I asked how big and they just said small, and that they wouldn’t be doing any surgery because of the size of it.

Just wondering what will happen if it doesn’t come away with AF? Will my body absorb it?

Still feeling morning sickness every day and it’s silly but in my head I think what If the baby is still there and they didn’t see it on the scan? Is this possible!? Or is it the tissue whats causing the pregnancy symptoms?

Hi, sorry to hear your loss. I was in kind of the same situation. Miscarried and went for scan and there was some retaining tissue. They said leave it as it should pass on it’s own which I think it did. Don’t quote me on this but I was told that you can either get infection or it can fuse to the inside of the womb creating scar tissue which then makes it harder for future pregnancy’s to attach to the lining of the womb. Maybe request another internal scan to see what’s happening and if at that point if there is still tissue, request medication to help things along. All the best xxxx

You may be fine but I had similar, in my case a blood clot stuck near my cervix which they said should pass on it’s own. It didn’t, and 2 or 3 days later I started bleeding heavily, as in flooding pads within a few seconds.

Should’ve gone straight to hospital, of course, but I just kept thinking that must be it now, and didn’t. I ended up collapsing and having to go to hospital and was admitted for a couple of days as I was so aneamic and I needed intervention to clear the clot / tissue.

Sorry not trying to scare you as I’m sure the odds are that you’ll be fine or they wouldn’t have sent you home, but if you do start to bleed heavily my advice would be get straight to hospital.

I think they said that because the clot wasn’t passing my body still thought I was pregnant and was continuing to make more blood which I was then losing, but confess I didn’t understand entirely! I am sure this is unusual though, as they wouldn’t send us home otherwise!

Very sorry for your loss.

@thefimblefowl: i had exactly the same as you. My experience was having a d&c and a hysteroscopy to remove tissue/ leftover pregnancy and they didn’t get rid of it all.

I was told it can happen 1 in 10 miscarriages and I’m just incredibly unlucky.

Previous posters are right, if it doesn’t pass, it can become infected and cause you a lot of issues so keep an eye/ record on blood loss/clots / cramping and ask for another scan if you don’t pass anything.

I pushed for another scan as I wasn’t certain I had passed it and luckily enough it’s been caught before the infection could really take hold.

I’m sorry for your loss x

Hi,
I had a surgical abortion 8 weeks ago and was experiencing spotting and cramps but no period, upon taking a pregnancy test I received a positive result and was told I had retained tissue that had not passed and I must go in for another surgery to remove this. I was wondering whether anyone else has experienced this and has any info/advised im very worried! Thanks
