Excessive bleeding

I started to miscarry properly last Wednesday, passed what I thought was the pregnancy and had some large clots and heavy bleeding all evening. Normal period type bleeding Thursday and Friday and Saturday day, then Saturday evening about 6pm I passed a massive clot and until I went to bed at 9pm every 20 minutes I was passing clots and filling two night time pads. This has continued all morning. I feel fine, a little crampy but don't feel ill, but at what point should I see someone? Is this normal to be this heavy 4 days after the fairly light bleeding? I've no fever and doesn't smell dodgy and everything online just says bleeding after 2 weeks then you should go to EPU? Thank you

If you're still passing clots, it's best to insist on an ultrasound at your EPU as you might still have retained some material. I was referred to get an EPRC done because a scan showed i still had too much in my uterus and it could have led to complications.

Excessive blood loss needs urgent medical attention. I had to insist on being admitted to hospital and doctors finally agreed to give me a scan. Theyactually said that if I hadn't come in, I would have ended up being rushed to hospital in an ambulance anyway as Iwas losing so much blood.

I should have written ERPC .. spellt it wrongly!

What are the complications? Just to make the decision to go means admitting to everyone this has happened. My parents are staying and they don't know and meant to have in laws over today too. Obviously I know my health is the most important thing but to say we are off to EPU opens a whole can of worms. Just how long I should wait to decide to go?

Sorry for your loss Flowers

If you are still soaking a night pad every twenty minutes or so then you should definitely be seen - unless EPU can see you today then A&E is the best option. You may need medication or an ERPC (what people sometimes call a D&C) to get the bleeding under control.

If you’re going to A&E then presumably you could just tell your family you’re having gynae pain/bleeding and wouldn’t have to mention the miscarriage?

EPAU told me if you fill 1 pad per hour you need to go in.x
