Just wondered from experience if you knew if the tablet you take before the surgery works fast? My biggest fear is seeing the blood and contents and having the pains... just wondered if I will feel those/ see it?

Hi pips, I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss. I’m afraid I have not had the surgery so I do not know. Hope you are ok x

Are you having an ERPC or taking the tablets and managing it that way? I'm afraid I've only ever had the former, but each time was under general anaesthetic - you have to insert a tablet that starts softening your cervix ahead of going into theatre, this has only ever caused very mild cramps - no bleeding. Post surgery I've never had a huge amount of bleeding or pain, only like a very light period. All the contents are removed during surgery so you don't have to deal with anything like that.
I'm sorry for your loss, wishing you well on Friday. Thanks

Are you having an ERPC? I had one on Thursday and I never had to take a tablet or have one inserted near my cervix. Just went into hospital at 7am, saw the doc for a chat then when straight into surgery. Woke up just after 10am. I was so scared but it honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Bled a bit afterwards so the nurses cleaned me up and gave me some codeine for the pain. I was discharged late afternoon. Still bleeding now and keep getting cramps but it's just like a heavy period, had a couple of clots but assuming that's normal.

So sorry for your loss, it's rubbish that we have to go through this. Good luck for Friday, hope everything goes well Flowers

I was given an oral tablet to take about an hour before I was due down to theatre to soften the cervix before the surgery.

I had a little bit of bleeding, just like the start of a period, not heavy, and I had no period pain. The tablets did give me diarrhoea quite quickly though, and I felt very sick/nearly vomited, but they gave me an anti sickness injection which worked pretty quickly. Not very pleasant stuff, but those side affects had gone once I came round from the operation.

Yes it's to soften cervix when having the D&C. Thanks all...
