Progesterone blood test

Hello everyone I don't know if anyone can help

But basically I've just had my second missed miscarriage. It gets to about 6 weeks each time and then I end up losing the baby.

I am wondering if progesterone is a part to play. They won't check that until I have had 3 mmc? Which is so annoying but they are willing to do the thrombophilia blood test 12 weeks after s negative pregnancy test.

I was wondering if anyone has paid privately for progesterone blood tests or if this is even a thing I can have done to check my levels?

My periods are very irregular so I can't do the 21 day blood tests as I don't know when I'll get my period as I have Pcos to! Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice plz

Hey OP, ao sorry you're going through this. I've no advice I'm afraid as I'm in a very similar situation. I've got a GP appointment on Weds so will let you know what they say.

Hi @Alicejj8x

So sorry for your loss. ThanksI have just had my second mmc - picked up last Thursday so I understand some of what your going through & am thinking of booking in with my GP next week too.

From my experience (am a junior doctor but work in imaging & haven't worked in GP or other specialties for a few years now so may well be wrong!) think it's kind of up to discretion of your GP how much of the tests for looking for cause of recurrent miscarriage they're willing to do. Technically as you say we're not classed as recurrent miscarriage sufferers until 3+ mcs just as two in a row are that much more common however anyone who puts themselves in this situation can see how harsh it is to say you have to potentially put yourself through this crap again before being checked out if possible.

There are some tests that I'm sure most GPs will be happy to do for you - e.g. thyroid function tests, etc. Others such as theombophillia screen or progesterone/hormonal profile some GPs may not be comfortable doing as can be quite complex to interpret and are usually only really done routinely by specialist hospital consultants. Some labs may also not actually let GPs request them either. I'm sure you could find a private gynaecologist who would do them though not sure how much this would cost. I think they prefer to try & do them at day 21 but if you have irregular cycles I think they'll just do them whenever and try to interpret from where they think they are in your cycle based on results.

Hope we all get our rainbow babies soon & don't have to go through this hell again though🤞XxX

@Jessabean hello! Oh I am so so sorry for your losses too!!

Did you book in with your GP?..
yeah exactly I don't want to have to be sitting on that doctors chair again for them to then tell me ok it's been 3 times we're do something. 2 is bad as it is! It's so rubbish isn't it :(

I think I will ask for the plain blood tests to be done again soon too but the fertility nurses told me they can do the thrombophilia blood test but has to be 12 weeks after a negative pregnancy test but my issue is what if I fall pregnant in that time.
I have looked into privately going for my progesterone blood test and have just found out it's going to be funded by the nhs my doctor gave me a blood referral form and it can be done under nhs just at a private hospital! So I am feeling very happy about this however my periods are so irregular there just have to do it as and when I assume lol

Thank you so so much for your reply and your advice it has helped me a lot :) I have been abit quiet on here atm just as I've had the tablet to induce the miscarriage at the weekend and now just like letting it all sink in befor going again if you get me! I really hope your ok and hope that we defo get our rainbow babies soon! We have been through enough we deserve some happiness xxxxx

Hi @Alicejj8x

Was wondering how your getting on with things now? Glad that your doctors getting things running for you in terms of the tests.
I've booked in a GP appointment but isn't till 17th April! 😱 My GP surgery is really good for emergency on the day appointments but always such a long wait for routine stuff!
Totally understand with needing the time away- I felt the same last week. Started to feel a bit better now since getting out and about a bit but still have my down moments too. Will just take time & is just natural I guess. Do feel like this second one has been a lot harder to deal with though overall. Xx
