Getting back to exercise post miscarriage

Hi all. I had a miscarriage last week. Before my pregnancy and also during I kept relatively active (walking everywhere, swimming, running). After my d&c they said I needed to rest 2 days but after that I was fine to get restarted as I had before.

I’m definitely taking things easier but wondered what others did and on what timeframe?

Hi there, didn't do anything at all for the first week ( I normally workout 4-5 times a week), as I really didn't feel well at all. Then I started with some yoga, and I have just started my normal gym routine after 2.5 weeks.

@granolacrayons: thanks for taking the time to reply! When you said you didn’t feel well during the first week, could you tell me the symptoms? I’m not sure if I’m coming down with a virus or if this is after effects from the d&c.

I had medical management, not a d&c. I was having bad cramps and was worn out. I had nausea, was vomiting and often felt faint. I lost a lot of blood. Do you have a temperature? I was told to take my temperature everyday and to come back if it was raised as it could indicate an infection. I hope you are okay.

Thanks granola. No temperature but a very sore throat, light headed, aches and extreme tiredness. Reading it back it sounds very much like post operation symptoms.

I was going to try a gentle run tomorrow but I think I’ll leave it a week and do some yoga /lower intensity stuff

I think I've always gone back to running about a week after my miscarriages (I've had 4), mainly because I find it very helpful for my mental state. But I always had medical management.

I had some gynae surgery in October and went back to running 12 days after that without problems.

On all occasions I just took it easy the first couple of runs to see how I felt and was fine.

There's no rush though if you're not feeling good.

Thanks @keeponrunning. They’d all be easy runs and I’d listen to my body of course.

Weird thing is that the doctors tell you how long you can’t have a bath for, but not about other sort of physical activities. I find it a bit strange, so wanted to check with others
