3 miscarriages in a row; Prof Quenby or Dr Shehata?

I'm 32 years old and I've just gone through my 3rd missed miscarriage at 10weeks (saw a heartbeat for the first time, then it stopped within days afterwards). My first was in 2015 at 6weeks, 2nd was 2017 at 7weeks.

I had some interim tests at my GPs just after the 2nd missed miscarriage. They tested all STD's, Thrombophilia screening, Anticardiolipids and hormone levels. All seemed to come back normal, except my blood had a slight tendency to clot, and my hormones were slightly off (but the GP said this could have been because the tests were done too close to the miscarriage).

Anyways, for my latest pregnancy I saw my specialist (Dr Rao, James Cook Hospital). He prescribed Cyclogest, 75mg of aspirin and 5mg folic acid. Although I got further than ever before I still had another missed miscarriage.

I'm confused over whether to see Prof. Quenby or Dr Shehata? I've heard Dr Shehata is much more expensive (not that it matters - but it is a consideration)...

Do any of you have any recommendations? I'm looking to test for NK & other immunology issues too, as well as anything else they may recommend.

Any help greatly received!

Hi 3inarow. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I too had three miscarriages in a row and went to dr shehata. I now have two daughters, one twenty months and one six months, so please don't lose hope as painful as it is.

This is a thread for women who are being treated by dr shehata or following similar plans. They are very friendly and helpful if you have any questions and the thread was a great support to me.

Good luck

I went to go see the Coventry team (I had in face consultations with Jan Brosens and then phone ones with Quenby). I would really recommend it - I didn't turn out to have elevated NK cells, but I'm still glad they checked. I had the endometrial scratch and cyclogest from 7dpo - maybe it did something, maybe it didn't but I'm now 15 weeks having never got to 8 before. They were incredibly kind and supportive. For me personally the money was a consideration, not so much because we couldn't afford Shehata (though it wouldn't have been easy!) but because I felt more comfortable seeing a research team than a doctor making profit. I am also personally slightly sceptical about the fact I've never seen a single person who went to see Shehata and were told they didn't have immune issues - if their NK cells aren't high they seem to get told they're unusually aggressive. It worried me a bit that, unlike Coventry, his tests never seem to come up negative. I also didn't want some of the treatments he offers, such as the lipid injections.

However, as the person above me said, there are many, many women who feel that Shehata helped them when nothing else would. It's also not an either or - would seeing Coventry first and then moving to Shehata if that doesn't help you be an option? (I think that way round makes more sense because of the cost/intensity of treatment)

Thank you so much to all of you who have responded and/or read my thread.

Although this group that we unfortunately find ourselves in is a club we'd all rather we weren't part of, nevertheless it's encouraging to hear women with similar experiences to me having gone on to have successful pregnancies. It's just wonderful - as I was starting to loose hope.

I've now got my GP to refer me to Dr Quenby; which I'm delighted about. In a way I hope there isn't anything wrong with me, but in another it might give me answers and then a plan of action.

I'm looking forward to getting on to the next step of the ladder. In the meantime I've also started a Fertility Cleanse and Fertility Yoga (@YogaYin) - both of which give me positive things to focus on, and things which I feel I'm in control of, during this time before I get to see the doctors and get past my first natural period (in order to get tests done).

Thank you all so much once again. You've all brightened my day with your help and supportive advice. Thank you so, so much xx
