Hi,my daughter is 17 and a few weeks ago found out she was pregnant only to misscary the other night we are all devastated ,we had just got our heads around her having a baby. She was heartbroken also. When would another pregnancy show up or do the hormones stay in the body for a few weeks . Thanks

Hormones stay in the body for a while after a miscarriage so it is possible she will still test positive on a pregnancy test. She will need to get checked medically to make sure she doesn't have any 'retained tissue' left. That is the main concern after a miscarriage as it could make her extremely ill.

Hi @Kelly0000. I'm so sorry to hear about what your daughter and family are going through.

The hormones can stay in the body for a few weeks afterwards. It might be best for her to perhaps test every week until there's a negative test.

Did she see her GP regarding the pregnancy at all? It might be best to let them know as they may advise further action be taken (like a blood test to monitor hgc levels, or a scan at a EPU just to make sure it's completed, though I understand that that sounds a bit technical and horrible).

Remember that everyone is different and that the levels can drop at different rates for different people. If she was early on (though that doesn't change how hurtful it is) she may only have produced so much of the hormone so may disappear quicker.

Again, I'm so sorry you're all in this situation. Please look after yourselves Flowers

Thank you for your message ,yes she did see a doctor re pregnancy but I will phone the gp next week to see if we need to do anything else. I just have to support her. To make it more difficult my other daughter is pregnant so I am upset but trying to be exited for my other daughter. Luckily my girls have supportive parents in us and I'm sure we will get through it 😊

@Kelly 0000 That must put you in a pretty tricky place. I'm absolutely sure you'll support them both equally and do it as a family unit Smile Wish her good luck for the GP, make sure that there's lots of fluids and foods with iron about (sometimes the aftermath can last a bit longer so she might lose energy with that).

And if you have any doubts or other questions, this board is pretty good at answering them with an empathetic ear :)
