Having second thoughts about surgical option, should I opt for medical management? (Second trimester loss)

I thought I definitely wanted the surgical option but now I'm waivering 😬

The midwife said the NHS don't offer a surgical option post 12 weeks because of the risk of uterine rupture. I investigated all my options and found that I could be referred for surgery through BPAS so once I get my CVS results through they are going to refer me.

Of course now I've convinced myself that I'm going to be the person who falls into the bad stats and ends up with a hysterectomy. I will be around 15 weeks. I've had another very kind mumsnetter who explained the whole medical management process and I think I could do it as long as I can have lots of pain relief.

Any advice or personal experience gratefully received 💐

Have seen your other threads and am really sorry you're going through this.

In your situation I would personally go for medical management with good pain relief. With surgery there is a small risk of uterine damage that could affect future fertility ("Asherman's syndrome").

(I have this from previous surgery.)

Hi Loopy. I have had surgery before and conceived DS2 soon after, so I guess I feel quite positive about it, however I was only 12 weeks at that point.

I feel like every option is a crap choice 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm so sorry Flowers
I had a surgical TFMR at 16 weeks with BPAS. I had to take tablets beforehand so I still ended up in a lot of pain (strong contraction pains). I had to then wait for a certain amount of time (I think an hour) and then was taken into surgery. I recovered quickly with no complications and found BPAS to be kind.
Since then I have had one miscarriage and one DC. I did worry about infertility too though.
You're right, every option is a crap choice. I just picked the one I felt I could cope with best.
Please message me if you have any questions.

Thank you Ice. I remember we have to take the cervix softening tablet beforehand was it that one that caused cramps do you think? Also were you in and out in one day?
