DC or vacuum procedure

Hi I have had 3 rd miscarriage confirmed today (9.5 weeks) please does anyone have any DC or vacuum procedure experiences to share? I felt midwife was pushing for less invasive vacuum, however I feel it sounds a bit brutal when they are mentioning that gas and air are available.
Both my others occurred naturally, whereby this was essentially missed

Sorry for your loss. Flowers

I've had three mmcs, all three surgically managed, two were MVAs under local. I didn't require gas and air on either occasion. I won't lie, I did find the procedure uncomfortable, but it's pretty quick, and after my last one I was out doing my Christmas food shop a couple of hours later.

Neither was 'brutal'. Both consultants were incredibly kind, talked to me throughout, would stop at any point when the discomfort was too much for me, and they scan as they go. I also had my partner with me the first time, and nurses holding my hands on both occasions.

I did have an ERPC with my most recent mmc, just because it was further along and only a few months after my last MVA. Again, recovered pretty swiftly, but the total waiting around time in hospital was a ballache, we were up there for ten hours all in all, even though the operation was only about half an hour.

Hope it goes ok for you, whichever option you choose.

Hi there

I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. The more I read on here the more I realise how common this is. I have recently had a surgically manages miscarriage. I went for a scan on 5th June to what I thought was my 13th week only to be told the baby had passed at 11.5 weeks. The nurses were amazingly supportive and I was not forced to make decisions immediately. I was offered all three options and opted for surgical. I couldn't bare the thought of waiting and seeing my baby. The nurse sent me home and booked me I. The following day. Like you, there was a fair bit of waiting around in a gown where I cried all day with my partner but the hospital staff were very understanding. I was given general anasthetic and the procedure was quite quick. I was petrified of bleeding but when I came round there was little blood. I stayed in the recovery bay for a few hours and was home that evening. I felt a bit drowsy for a couple of days after with little bleeding and just slight lower back pain eased with hot water bottles and painkillers. The bleeding stopped after a few days but I then passed a big clot at the weekend just gone and have had very light spotting since. This was my first pregnancy and MMC so I can't comment on other options, but my advice is to go with whatever you feel comfortable with. I also asked for a second scan before my procedure, not that I doubted the nurses, but for my own peace of mind which you are fully entitled to. They advise you take a pregnancy test two weeks after which I did on Wednesday and got a positive test, so I have been booked back into the EPAU next week for another scan and some tests. I think this is to check my hormone levels are dropping. It is however making my emotions all over he place.

I am truly sorry to hear your news, I know exactly what you're feeling right now. Give yourself time afterwards to heal both physically and mentally and I hope you have lots of support at home too because it is normal to feel all sorts of emotions at this time. Whatever option you choose will be the right one for you.

There are lots of people on here who are very kind and supportive, so if you have any worries or need to reach out, do, because there are people here who will listen and get what you're experiencing.

Sending you lots of hugs xxx

I had an ERPC suction on 15 June. I was petrified. But decided to go for it rather than sit it out and wait. It was my first pregnancy and first MMC. The actual procedure was absolutely fine. Perfect, if you can say that. General anesthetic and woke up with no pain, no bleeding, nothing. Nothing for about two days and then on the Saturday i bled like a light period. Have had no bleeding since about Wednesday. I'd def recommend it.....sounds so bad, but I mean in the situation. Hugs xx

Hi just to update. I started spotting morning of DC so opted for medical management instead to speed things along. Hoping I don't get too rough a time of it 😢
