Experiences of recurrent miscarriage clinic

It's been confirmed today that I'm having a third miscarriage at a bit over six weeks. I've already had two previous miscarriages in the last few months, both at five weeks. The GP said they'd send me to a specialist at RMC if this one failed too, and so I was just wondering if anyone would mind sharing their experiences of this? How long did you have to wait? How long did it take to get the results? Were you told not to TTC while waiting? What types of test did they run?

Hi ladies.

Lisa I'm glad you felt taken seriously at your appointment. The having to wait sucks doesn't it. I'm currently waiting for some surgery on my uterus before we try again. I don't have a date for the op yet but it will likely be end of September/early October. I'm trying to use other things to break up the waiting. For example, at the moment I'm focussing on our upcoming holiday in 3 and a half weeks. And then when I get back from that hopefully it'll only be about 6 weeks until the op. And then another 6 weeks until we can try again. Also, although having a break from trying is not my first choice, I am finding it helpful for my mental wellbeing, and feel more like myself than I have for a long time.

Hopefully in the future when we have our babies we'll look back on this time and recognise it was necessary and worthwhile.

Choo I hope your scan is as ok as it can be today. Thinking of you.

Thanks all. Scan confirmed full miscarriage.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 12/07/2017 12:27

Full as in it's completed by itself? That's what happened to me, too, and although it's horrible I did take some comfort from not needing further procedures. I'm really sorry and hope you're able to take good care of yourself today Flowers

keepon thanks for your message - yes, it does suck! Am thinking about also going to the Coventry NK cells testing centre this summer - those tests also take a few months, so it makes sense to do them all in the same in this 'down period'. I rang them this morning and it seems very straightforward to arrange. As DH said, 'at least it'll make us feel like we're doing something'

Yes - everything is gone. I feel so empty.

Definitely push for NK testing if you can - that's what I'm hoping I'll get. And I totally get what you mean about feeling like at least you are doing something

LisaSimpsonsbff · 12/07/2017 14:09

I'm so sorry Flowers - I know just what you mean about feeling empty.

They told me their sort of NK cell testing (I think there are also other types of test for this) has to be done at least two months after miscarriage, and it has to be done in two cycles on 7-10dpo. This might prove a bit of a logistical challenge - we don't live near Coventry!- but think it's what I want to do. Last night I was all for just carrying on TTC as I think it's so unlikely we'll get a definite answer, but now I feel like I do want to give all the tests a shot as I think I'll regret it if I don't and then miscarry again.

Hi all - just thought I'd resurrect this thread, as I've got my first appointment at Coventry for the NK cells testing on Monday and a couple of people on here said they'd also had that, so was wondering if anyone minded sharing their experiences? Hope everyone else who's been on here is doing ok - have been thinking of you sometimes.

Jimi what a wonderful story about your baby after so many losses. That's brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing it to give us all hope.
Good luck to everyone!

ferntwist · 02/08/2017 22:59

TinyTear amazing to hear you finally had success after going to Coventry. What medication did they prescribe you?

LisaSimpsonsbff · 29/03/2019 23:33

I just wanted to come back to this thread to update - I googled and read so many of these threads around the time I posted this one and I always wanted to know what happened in the end.

I now have a gorgeous 9 month old, conceived two months after I had the Coventry tests and on their treatment. I have no idea whether it made any difference - they found that I did not have elevated NK cells but they put me on progesterone from a few days past ovulation to 13 weeks pregnant, and they also say the tests themselves (the scratch) can be a treatment because of the way your womb reacts. I did also take aspirin, on the advice of my local EPU - Coventry actually advise against this (unless blood tests show an issue for which it's relevant - again, mine were all normal), which I didn't realise until after I'd started taking it, but also to be honest I was quite happy to be taking anything that could possibly help.

Obviously I'll never know whether any of that made a difference - and if so what - or whether I just finally got lucky. I'm not advising anyone else what to do or take, but I just wanted to share what happened to me.

Thank you so much for the update @LisaSimpsonsbff I am currently waiting for a referral to Coventry after a really disappointing appointment with my local RMC and have been feeling pretty low, but your experience has given me a shred of hope x

LisaSimpsonsbff · 01/04/2019 22:01

I'm so sorry for your losses, and for your bad treatment by your local RMC. I hope you have a better experience at Coventry - I found them so kind and helpful at a point where I needed that so much. Wishing you all the luck in the world
