Doing things differently next time?

I had a MC 5 weeks ago (1st pregnancy) and although I've been told not to try again yet (due to cysts) I've been thinking a lot about what I might do differently when the time comes.

Although I have no idea why I MC, I feel so desperate to try and do everything possible to make it work next time.

I've looked online and there are a billion different herbs, vitamins, teas, creams and tablets. I've also read articles about eating organic, drinking only filtered water and fertility diets etc etc.

Although I don't want to drive myself crazy and change my whole life, I was wondering if others out there are thinking of making any changes either when TTC or when they get their BFP?

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Just to let you know there is a very good chance that nothing you did made any difference to the miscarriage of the baby. I'm not sure when you lost the baby, but in a lot of cases early miscarriages are due to there being something wrong with the baby, rather than the mother. (Obviously not always the case.)

If I was you I wouldn't make any major changes to your lifestyle when you TTC again, beyond maybe trying to eat healthy and have a healthy lifestyle as much as possible.

I unfortunately lost my first baby at 10 weeks pregnant (although it didn't grow properly beyond 5/6 weeks.) I got pregnant again 2 months later and am currently 37 weeks pregnant. I did nothing different between the first and second time. Wishing you all the luck in the world xx

I'm so sorry you lost your baby. Other than eating healthily, taking folic acid and not drinking alcohol, you don't need to do anything. The vast majority of women who miscarry once will have a healthy pregnancy next time. This was not your fault, in all likelihood all the pills, supplements, positive thoughts, and eastern voodoo chanting in the world would not have altered the outcome. Most miscarriages are due to spontaneous defects in the DNA of the baby which means it can't develop beyond an early stage. Your body did the right thing, and next time, with a healthy baby on board, it will do the right thing and sustain the pregnancy. If you can use the enforced waiting time to get yourself into good mental and physical shape, do that, but don't put your faith in any magic pill. You might find the TTC after MC and pregnancy after MC threads helpful to ease the inevitable anxiety. Good luck!

Right, I've re-read. Who has advised you not to try again? Can you be referred for specialist help due to your cysts? It seems a bit off to be told not to bother and to not be offered any further assistance.

I know everyone is right.
It just took me so long to conceive, so the thought of going another 2.5 years trying to make a baby, only to lose it, makes me feel so desperate to try something new.

Storm I had my MC in hospital and when discharged the doctor said that due to my ovarian cyst I "can't even discuss trying for another baby" until I've had another scan in 9 weeks. I'm assuming this is because if it's still as big they'll consider surgery to remove it.
I've actually managed to get my GP to get the scan pushed forward for me (I'm having it done next week). But even he said, that the outcome of the scan may be to monitor the cyst and have another scan in another 9 weeks! Confused

Right, so you have options regarding treatment for the cyst. In that case, deal with that first as the Dr has advised and then review your options once that has been sorted. 9 wks must feel like a long time when your ttc though.

Anxiety regarding pregnancies after miscarriage is awful, you feel as though you have been robbed from the excitement of those early days and weeks. I mc at 5 wks on my first pregnancy, then had ds1, mmc at 10 wks, then had ds2. Every pregnancy is different, aside from following the great advice above, keep this in mind when you get your next bfp.

Also, not sure how much you believe in holistic therapies but a friend has a course of reflexology following her mc's. She said her reflexologist commented on her specific fertility problems following the first session. I have no experience of this personally but perhaps, if nothing else it will keep you relaxed?
