Stillbirth and next pregnancy

Hi - I am 36 and recently lost my son due to severe placenta abruption. They could not find any medical reason as to why it happened. I want to know did anyone had a PA around my age and then went on to have healthy baby in the next pregnancy? Does any one what are the chances it will happen again? Any information will be helpful!

for your son. Yes I had a massive concealed abruption resulting in the stillbirth of my beautiful daughter.
No cause was formally identified but I believe it was caused by very, very low iron levels combined with a weakness in my uterine wall.
Yes I did go on to have another child with very good care from the NHS and a lot of iron tablets. Feel free to PM me if you need any further information.

Thanks for your response. In my case they could not any reason.how did they come to know you have weak uterine wall? Did they do any scan or test for this? What age did you have the PA? What sort of extra care you got from the NHS?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your son. My mother had a stillbirth due to placental abruption at age 38 (38 weeks I think) and I was born two years later. She was induced at 37 weeks just in case, I don't know if they still do that.

So so sorry for your loss. I had a stillbirth after a PA when I was 32 (first pregnancy). No reason found. In fact consultants had different opinions as to why things went wrong. It was recommended I took 75mg aspirin during my next pregnancy which was uneventful and successful. Maybe you could ask your consultant about whether this would be appropriate for you? I don't think it's something that should be done without medical agreement/supervision. In terms of extra care - during my next pregnancy my care was consultant lead but we agreed that it would be low key (I had enough of hospitals and scans etc by then) unless there were any problems. I was treated very sympathetically and sensitively by everyone during my next pregnancy and I hope you can expect the same. I wish you all the best if decide to try again.

No this was what I figured out myself so no tests or proof. The official explanation was 'idiopathic' - medical speak for 'We don't know'. I was 39. Specialist blood tests at St Mary's indicated a possible clotting problem for which I took 150mg aspirin daily in my subsequent pregnancy. Extra scans and went into hospital at 30 weeks until an early elcs.
I think that the weakness in my uterine wall was from a previous birth with a small bleed. If my iron levels had been better this wouldn't have been a problem at all.
